Calling all cowboys and cowgirls:Put on your period duds and mosey on
up to the beautiful hills of Oak Glen above Yucaipa on May 3rd and
4th, where Rileys at Los Rios Rancho[1] invites guests to sample life
in a simpler time at its fifth annual Old Ways Days. NEW THIS YEAR -
Old Ways Days will include a chuck wagon cookoff ? the only one
scheduled in California this year. Watch as national champion chuck
wagon crews compete for $3000 in cash and prizes. See how cooks on the
trail prepared food for weary and hungry cowboys. Better yet, pick up
a meal ticket and try the grub yourself!
Our Old West village will be complete with period vendors and
tradesmen, a Texas Ranger encampment, Western artists and authors, and
more. A presentation on Victorian theater will demonstrate the type of
?high tone? entertainment folks enjoyed at the local ?opry house? in
the days before movin? pictures, radio, and TV.Other activities for
the entire family include an antique tractor and farm equipment show,
hands-on demonstrations of planting, driving draft horses, a quilt
show, period encampments, frontier crafts and games, carriage rides,
and more. . A Hometown Jamboree barn dance Saturday night will
feature music by the Rileys Mountaineer Band. Admission's free to the
public (tickets required for Jamboee) - there are small fees for some
activities. The event runs from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day.
