- Proposal
Change the requirements for the helper tag on discord
- Justification
To prevent people from abusing the role that is supposed to be there for helping new players
- Motivation
Keep people with bad intentions from abusing the helper tag
I noticed a new player sporting the helper tag on discord and realized with the influx of new players if everyone having access to that tag on the jump is worth having a look at?
I worry about the potential confusion, and harm to the perception of the server that can be made with someone giving misleading information while sporting the helper tag
Plus the role itself says "a role for veteran players"
Thought it was at least worth bringing up and was curious if anyone felt the same

Upvoted. Harm is already being done by members of the community abusing what is supposedly a role for, as mentioned, "veteran" players.
Allowing it to be gated behind time in the server, or a public vote, would go a long way to removing this capability to abuse it, and the trust of newer players.
Upvoted. I've witnessed a new player give out objectionable false information in discord multiple times. A time gate would be very beneficial.
Time-gate/knowledge check/past history of helping/interview - some sort of check would be good.
It should only be given if you're a veteran of the server and not the game. Other things like an app for it ect would be helpful too. The fact there's no check/balance for it is a bad look for the community. If new people come in and the "helpers" aren't vetted, bad info, abuse and possible harassment can occur.
Upvoted. The helper tag should reflect time and experience on this server, not just past SWG experience.
I went to add the helper tag, since I'd never done it, to see what it is about. So it makes me a purple name and I get access to a hidden discussion forum on Discord

Correct summary, yes.
I suggest we remove the current itteration of the tag and revist it in the future to at least cut off any vectors of abuse with it.
If we can have the same attitude with stuff in-game it really should be a no brainer for something like discord which can act as someone's first impression of the server before they even download the client
I'm personally going to remove my helper tag going forward. I was on the fence about it, but the more I think about it the more I refuse to be associated with any group that allows people like rufio or scammers like kas to join.
I removed mine today as well.
Yep KAS has that tag and so did Rufio. It disqualifies them from being a Senator but they can have that tag. Seems wrong
We are going to be winding down this program.
Our intent was that people would simply see the role as equivalent to the in-game HELPER tag, and not put much weight behind it. It would just allow helpful people to make themselves known to players seeking help. Unfortunately it appears that people are associating it with status or authority, despite coming with no perks. We can't vet every answer everyone gives, and everyone is going to be wrong on the internet sometimes, so since this role was received by the community in a different way than was intended, we aren't going to be able to keep it going. In the future we may try to role out some more anointed helper program, but at this time we do not have the resources to do so.
