Armorsmithing Needs Some Love:

Armorsmithing Needs Some Love:
Proposal
Armorsmithing is boring. To add depth and excitement to the profession, I propose adding Biological-Mechanical Cartridges into the final step of armor crafting. These cartridges would allow players to customize their armor with unique buffs that cater to their individual playstyles, whether for PvE, PvP, or non-combat builds. By giving players more customization options, we can bring variety and life back to Armorsmithing.
Justification
Right now, Armorsmithing feels repetitive, once you’ve decided on your stats, most armor pieces are essentially the same. The lack of customization makes it hard for players to express themselves through their gear. Biological-Mechanical Cartridges would solve this issue by offering buffs that are specific to each armor piece (boots, arms, gloves, etc.), giving players the ability to shape their gear around their preferred combat role or non-combat activities. This would not only make the profession more engaging but also introduce a fresh layer of strategy, allowing for more diverse builds.
Motivation
Armorsmithing is integral to the game, and it's about time we give it some much-needed love. The Biological-Mechanical Cartridges are already in the game in the final crafting process but were never fully implemented. With a little development attention, they could become a great way to introduce meaningful choices and variety to crafting, all while benefiting the economy by adding new, farmable components and an NPC vendor credit sink. This would revitalize Armorsmithing, making it a core part of shaping players' builds and playstyles and offering a more exciting and customizable experience for everyone.
  • What the Cartridges Could Do:
    • Boots: Buffs like knockdown defense, camouflage, or a kick attack.
    • Arms: Could add dodge, melee speed, or a shooting attack with elemental DOTs.
    • Gloves: Buffs like ranged speed/accuracy, unarmed damage, or faster stims.
    • Legs: Could offer a movement speed boost, better sprints, or dodge.
    • Helmets: Possible buffs for healing, mind, or accuracy.
    • Chest: Could give something like a Bacta shot when health drops to 10%, backlash damage, or damage mitigation.
  • Additional Thoughts: These buffs could cater to both combat and non-combat builds. The components needed to craft these BMCs could be farmable or bought from NPC vendors, creating an extra credit sink in the economy.

Armorsmithing a core part of the game, could offer more variety, customization, and excitement. By giving it a bit of development love, it could become a key part of shaping players' builds and playstyles, making crafting and armor selection more engaging for everyone.

I have no clue why you would think armorsmithing needs more love. Everyone buys multiple suits of armor. Armor is hugely customizable. Armorsmithing is in a great place on Resto. It is the rest of crafting that wants to catch up to where AS already is.

I agree with Savacc on this.

Armorsmith is one of the few professions that really doesn’t need any extra attention right now. It’s already in a great place, both for the people crafting and the players using the gear.

We’ve got a wide variety of armor sets, plenty of customization options, and a strong role in the overall economy. Compared to other professions, Armorsmithing already feels complete and well-supported.

If anything, it’s one of the best examples of a profession that’s already “loved” by both crafters and the playerbase.

I'd be fine with armor decay reduction or something like this but the other stats you had mentioned seem like it would need to rebalace classes and combat

I don't really mess with the other crafting profession so I can't say too much about them, but other than cosmetics I feel its a bit stale in game just my opinion.

I'd certainly love allowing the armorsmith themself to get some cool benefits from using their armor, but I'm not even sure how to balance that, as adding any sort of combat functionality to crafting classes seems like a complete nightmare. If it's just on the side of being able to craft their own armor, then I have to agree with what others have already said- AS seems to be one of the more in-demand trades. I can't justify upvoting the PV in its current state.

perhaps the suggestions were a bit on the heavy end, I'll re-evaluate thanks for the input.
It's no problem at all! I'm curious though: you called armorsmith a boring profession, and why is that? As others have said it's incredibly in-demand, among other crafting professions. What do you feel like armorsmith is lacking compared to say, a weaponsmith or chef?

Shines brings up a good point, maybe armorsmith isn't the crafting profession for you? Not throwing shade or anything, just I've tried out quite a few crafting professions and Chef/Weaponsmith/Armorsmith are my favorite.

I enjoy AS a great deal I do, but I just find in the utility aspects of the profession there is a lot of unused content. Ie advanced armor layers, its all primus the other two no one touches. And energy/kin suit are so nich. Ive made a few energy sets, and I've only ever made one kin set for someone. I'm not suggestion a major change to combat just small buffs, more utility variety wouldn't be game changing, and it would make the process feel a bit more varying. Like i said everyone wants a max/closetomax health primus armor. To me its boring, maybe I'm the only one. I do also do tailer and DE, and I agree those professions are not even close to integral to the game as AS, but its my opinion. This is something the original developers added to the game but never implemented either because they forgot, or just kept putting it down the pipe line till it was too late,

I see, yeah. Unfortunately that's the result of a meta being established in a decades-old game. There are a few alternatives, but the battle meta is real. And the primus is, well, absolutely the settled option in most cases. I'm not trying to put words in your mouth, please correct me if I'm wrong: It sounds like you'd want more variety in the sort of final products that the armorsmith makes, rather than a whole lot of very similar items, where the customization comes from players using SEAs and such?

Yes, nothing quite like what RE offers but just a little umph if you catch my drift, the idea was never fully formed, and it's mostly just from years of looking at that box and know it's nothing. Also I'm a meta hater to the heart.

I totally get it. Maybe an edit or a new PV would be to just to say to add some functionality to that feature without giving specifics? It's easy to take a PV request as begging for more power, maybe being more open ended is the key to seeing things looked at in a more genuine light?

I don't know. Right now AS is in a good place in terms of the meta, and people don't tend to like change very much. But I can definitely see the value in the idea, even if the balancing of that specific implimentation sounds like a nightmare.

You should of seen the backlash I got from suggesting CL80 droids a year and a half ago...

I don't doubt it. This game (And thus a lot of its community) comes from a time when resentment was a cultural foundation, and caustic behavior was seen as something positive.
