Jedi vs Bounty Hunter collection

Jedi vs Bounty Hunter collection

Proposal
Add a Jedi collection that progresses by defeating Bounty Hunters, rewarding something like 5 to 10% increased damage, similar to the existing BH collection.
Justification
Right now, it feels like the majority of Jedi vs BH fights end one of two ways: the Jedi escapes, or the Jedi dies. Bounty Hunters also seem to come out on top in most of these fights for a variety of reasons.

There are very few situations where a Jedi actually manages to kill everyone pushing them. Going up against a 3-stack of BHs is already difficult enough to secure kills because of the limited kill windows, so giving Jedi a collection that rewards successful kills would provide meaningful long-term progression for players who are able to win those engagements.
Motivation
I think this would encourage newer Jedi to actually take fights instead of immediately looking for an escape. Right now, there's very little incentive to try and win. It's usually just run away or die.

Adding a Jedi collection would give players a reason to engage and improve instead of always prioritizing survival. It rewards successful PvP without changing the core gameplay, while also giving Jedi something comparable to work toward, much like Bounty Hunters already have.

There are very few situations where a Jedi actually manages to kill everyone pushing them. Going up against a 3-stack of BHs is already difficult enough to secure kills because of the limited kill windows, so I think it would be cool if Jedi had their own collection that progresses by defeating Bounty Hunters, rewarding something like 5 to 10% increased damage, similar to the BH collection.

Giving Jedi a progression path tied to defeating Bounty Hunters would make those fights feel a lot more rewarding and encourage people to engage instead of avoiding PvP whenever possible.

Hello! Could you elaborate on the following statement?

"Bounty Hunters also seem to come out on top in most of these fights for a variety of reasons."

I'd be interested to know what those reasons are from your perspective. Thanks in advance.

No problem - from my experience, almost every Jedi I've talked to says their winrate is much less than 50%. Not only that, but so many of the Jedi on this server are just giving up and letting BH ghost them because of lost morale from losing so much. It's so bad right now, that people will do their heroic runs, then just wait to ghost in Eisley so they can be available at the same time the next day to do their runs again.

I also have been bounty hunting for the past few months, and I think only 1 or 2 times did any Jedi get away, and right now I have about 60 (?) kills. It's not a crazy amount, but it's certainly significant enough. My friends as well are boasting 3-10 Jedi kills a day, with very infrequent losses.

This surprises me because I'm a BH myself and I don't really share the same observation:

  • A Jedi who knows their abilities can easily escape if they are not, depending on their specialization, in a position to secure a kill (Force Run / Cloak *into Vehicle-Any Starship Terminal or Maximilian teleporter* / Concs, Snares & Roots, Heals, I believe I've even seen a shield making them invulnerable, Water for 4 hours or into LD).
  • A Jedi with Improved Force Aura only offers a ten-second window every 30 or 40 seconds. A window during which they can actually be hit, if they don't deflect. This also prevents BHs from diversifying their builds, forcing them into setups that don't really take accuracy into account, or at least minimize it as much as possible.
  • There is currently a bug where Breach Guard completely negates Doom set procs (one of the very few builds capable of reliably hitting a Jedi with Improved Force Aura).
  • The few players I've encountered who simply let themselves die didn't seem to enjoy PvP, and I believe that engaging with it encourages players to better understand their own abilities and improve their defensive play.
I've rarely seen "easy" Jedi, except for inexperienced players or those fully focused on the PvE side of the game as casuals. I even had the chance to test Jedi on the Test Center, and the class definitely did not feel weak - quite the opposite.

I've fought respected Jedi players, sometimes in 3v1 situations, and despite being well supported by equally experienced teammates, it didn't take long for those Jedi to wipe the threat, punishing every mistake and knowing their abilities inside out.

That said, this is only my opinion, and I do agree with your point about creating incentives for Jedi to engage in combat, something I already suggested recently on one of the Discord channels. I think it would be a positive change. A collection system could indeed be an interesting idea...! I'm not sure if this collection should buff an alpha class though. Curious to see people's ideas.

I understand your perspective, but you're also very new! If you are who I think you are (Vilaura?), then I've 1v2'd you when you tried hunting my normie while I was AFK before. It's no offense, but I think that's why it surprises you.

  • There is currently a bug where Breach Guard completely negates Doom set procs (one of the very few builds capable of reliably hitting a Jedi with Improved Force Aura).

I also tested this extensively recently. Very unpredictable, because there's also a bug that goes the opposite way where it seems like DOOM has 100% proc rate on Jedi.

First these are Padawans so not even the strongest yet. Second 1v1 unless the Padawan is very unskilled or new they should win or escape. !v2 is harder and 1v3 is much harder. It all depends on the skill of not just the Padawan but also the BH(s) involved. With the population increase we have more new Padawans who come up against the experienced BH and lose. So no they do not need a boost against BH. Not to mention there are changes coming with the FRS/Knight system in the future. Oh and escape should always be an option to attempt. If they were to always win there would be no point to the Vis system. Want to win everytime? Stay off the boards. It is not that hard to do and quite a few do.

At that point, it's true that I was just starting out. Like anyone else, I had no food or drinks against a class that is already quite strong and backed by GCW buffs.

Fortunately, there were some experienced players & senators kind enough to teach me the basics, explain things, and help me improve over time. That was about three months ago now, after all. I've probably killed around fifty Jedi since then. I think all of the points I raised are more or less verifiable, it only took pressing "Force Aura" on the Test Center for me to understand why so many people complain about Jedi Defender, for example. Including Jedi players. (I'm mentioning MDefs because they're obviously popular and, in my humble opinion, for very good reasons.)

So maybe, from your perspective, it's simply a matter of "bringing three Rangers" or playing Doom or CH to secure kills, but from mine, there's nothing normal about that. (Besides, that's not entirely true either.)

Some aspects of the Jedi toolkit are so strong that they effectively limit build diversity. Even excellent players are forced into the Gambler set just to have a reasonable chance of landing hits. That's why I don't really see the value in adding a Jedi damage-buff collection that would simply negate the BH damage-buff collection altogether.

(Never experienced the 100% proc rate yet but I can believe it judging by the amount of bugs I've heard about.)

I don't think the alpha class needs any additional damage buffs.
Cool man!

I get where you're coming from, and I don't disagree that a really good Jedi can absolutely dismantle a group of BHs.

I just don't think those cases represent the average Jedi experience right now.

From what I've seen, and from talking to a lot of Jedi, the average outcome is still that BHs win far more often than they lose. Even if the Jedi escapes, that's not really a win. It's just surviving. Actually killing a coordinated group of BHs is incredibly rare unless there's a massive skill gap.

I also think we're talking about two different things. You're pointing out what Jedi are capable of at the highest level, while I'm looking at how the system plays out across the server as a whole. The fact that a handful of exceptional Jedi can 1v3 doesn't really change that most Jedi are struggling enough that many have stopped trying to fight altogether and just ghost when they get hunted.

As for the collection itself, I wasn't really suggesting it because I think Jedi need more raw power. The idea was to create an incentive to actually take fights instead of always defaulting to escape. If the reward ended up being something other than a damage buff, I'd be completely open to that too. The motivation behind the suggestion is encouraging PvP, not making Jedi unbeatable.

Just like when an inexperienced normie gets killed, and there are a lot in FPs for example. A lot of BHs jump into it when they're new, just like I did, without the necessary knowledge, and then gradually try to understand the system and improve over time.

I genuinely believe that if someone takes the time to study the class properly, a Jedi player can improve, refine their build, and eventually become capable of winning 1v3 situations - precisely because some of the tools available to them are incredibly powerful. I may be wrong, though, and I'm happy to acknowledge that, since I don't actually have a Jedi myself to speak from firsthand experience. I only have what I was able to test on the Test Center, which was still quite revealing, along with my experiences as a BH fighting alongside players who are much better than I am.

(Yeah, it’s a shame that they may have to go MDef if they want to fully optimize, just like BHs are unfortunately limited in their build as well. I’ve also noticed there’s a clear difference between Defender and the other specializations in many aspects.)

Perhaps what would help more is an easy-to-access guide so that less experienced Jedi players who want to improve have a clearer path forward and can become more confident... while we’re waiting for future changes?

As for the collection system and the idea of making the interaction more engaging for both sides, I completely agree.

Bro If the expectation is that someone needs hundreds of hours, extensive testing, a near-perfect build, and a deep understanding of every matchup before they can consistently fight back, then it's def not surprising that so many newer Jedi choose to just run or ghost instead.

That's also why I don't think pointing to the top 1% is a great way to judge the overall health of the system. Those players will almost always find success regardless of balance. I'm more interested in what the experience looks like for the other 99%.

I also like the idea of better guides, but I don't think that's the whole answer. A guide can teach someone how to play better, but it doesn't really solve the lack of incentive to actually stand and fight. That's what I was trying to address with the collection idea.

Again, I get your perspective - it makes sense given your experience. I've seen you play a lot, and you can only see the game from your current POV and that's totally fine.

In any game, if you don’t understand your class, if you don’t use the ONE button you can macro to spam that prevents the vast majority of builds from touching you against people who have been playing the game for (in most cases on SWG) almost 30 years, then you can safely assume the issue isn’t the class, but the player. That’s all I’m pointing out. What about WoW? It's even more difficult and much faster-paced in terms of rhythm.

If I’m a Jedi and I die stupidly while other Jedi perform well, I try to improve, since it’s clearly possible and we’re given the tools to do so, like the Test Center. But everyone has their own perspective of course. But you won’t change the minds of those who don’t want to improve or engage in PvP.

Lavesta and Supermag and other Jedi who actually know their craft will probably tell you they don't need a damage buff. But who am I to speak for them.

Other PV have already been done for the adding something. This one was somewhat specific. Adding a cosmetic badge or broken weapon with the BH name would be fine. Your suggestion is not. As for people ghosting on purpose, most of the ones I have heard say they do it so they can be ready to run heroics/content again when they log back on the next day and don't want to take the time to stay off the boards. A Padawan should lose frequently at 3 v 1 and yes for an alpha class it should take some time to learn the skills instead of an easy I win all the time. Earned rather than entitled.

As stated above, this has been discussed before. Initially i was hardcore against the idea of a collection at all but the community has since convinced me otherwise. However, i think the collection and maybe a badge/title would be enough and nothing like this should be added with any kind of stats included.

We've not balanced Jedi around having any of these kind of stat boosts and its honestly not required for the top end players. Giving the better Jedi an extra x% reduction would be crazy, particularly while we have Defender in its current state. BHs also make more appropriate use of the % reduction as they wont be getting any stronger in future. With extra stats like that, once we start hitting Jedi Knight etc we could be heading toward a completely unbalanced situation. Then we would have to start considering whether we balance the jedi power scaling including or excluding the extra % reduction for PvP specifically while keeping other areas of the game in mind.

It basically becomes a nightmare balancing act any time you add anything like this to Jedi specifically. But an actual collection with something cosmetic or title based i'd be all for and would be a much more reasonable proposition.

Another thing to keep in mind is, jedi really aren't supposed to win a 1v3 baed off of balance goals and a 1v2 should be difficult. Giving this collection would just make the jedi winning the 1v3 more powerful. Then it wouldn't help the jedi that currently can't beat bounty hunters because they won't be winning fights to complete the collection anyways without fight clubbing.

Not that a collection is a bad idea to encourage jedi to fight, but it definitely shouldn't give any stat bonuses. Even then it could still easily lead to fight clubbing as bhs have no consequences for death and could easily feed their jedi friends some kills.
