Let us remap mouse look as something other than "alt"
This idea/suggestion is Open. You can respond to ask questions or discuss the idea and either vote it up or down if you believe it should or should not be implemented, respectively. Popular suggestions and ideas will be considered by the development team to become reality in-game.
Proposal
Let us remap the mouse look key to not use alt by default.
Justification
As it stands, you can add another key to toggle mouse mode but ALT cannot be removed from it, meaning that if you are using alt+1 to activate a skill, it does activate the skill but it also toggles mouse mode.
Motivation
Most games allow key modifiers, generally those are "shift", "ctrl" and "alt". In SWG, some professions have more skills than others and having the ability to use more key modifiers that are muscle memory for a lot of us would be really helpful.

IIRC, the devs have said that it is hard-coded in the game and cannot be changed (at lest not without massively prohibitive effort). /blame SOE

I figured that could be the case but thought I'd post the PV to at least have confirmation as I could only find an old PV from 2024 about being able to default to pointer mode which was implemented.
 
I would love to be able to unbind the alt key, as currently when alt-tabbing out of the game or between characters, it always hides open interface elements like inventory, bazaar and trade windows. When in space and alt-tabbing out and back the ship stops /follow and changes direction until manually realigned, if using the mouse for controlling your ship.

It's nothing game breaking, but it would be a great quality of live improvement.
 
Yep, alt is hard-coded by SOE and the devs have stated it would take close to a ground-up re-write of the code to fix.

A work around for alt-tabbing is window-tabbing instead. Also, if you have more than one monitor, you can to the Multi-Monitor fix on the SWGR Tech FAQ page and don't need to use a key at all to move between monitors.

I already got everything set up for multiple monitors, I just want to use the same key modifiers every game uses. I don’t know what the OG devs were thinking. I honestly wish I could flat out turn mouse mode off and fully disable it. Never once have I used it, I don’t really see the point of it and it is simply a nuisance to me.
