- Proposal
- Create one new player house with a fixed interior layout and structure, then create a selection of exterior skins that can be applied to it.
Each skin would change the outside materials, colours, textures and small visual details so the house better matches the planet where it is placed.
For example, a Tatooine version could use sandy stone and weathered desert materials, while a Naboo version could use cleaner stone, lighter colours and more decorative details. A Corellia version could have a more industrial appearance, while Lok could look rougher, darker and more heavily weathered.
The actual house would remain the same size and shape, with the same interior layout in every version.
At a later date, the same idea could also be expanded to interior skins. Players could buy or unlock different interior styles that change the appearance of the floors and walls without changing the layout of the house.
You could have wooden interiors, sandstone interiors, more expensive and luxurious looking interiors, industrial styles, rustic interiors or even run down slum style interiors.
Another option could be to give city mayors some control over the appearance of buildings within their city. A mayor could choose to require certain structures to use a specific exterior style, helping the whole city keep a consistent theme. For example, a city on Tatooine could require Tatooine style skins, while another city could choose Naboo, Corellia or a more mixed appearance.
This could give player cities much more identity and allow mayors to create themed settlements rather than having completely different building styles placed next to each other.
Overall, this would give players much more control over how their homes look while still using the same basic house model underneath.
- Justification
- This would allow more housing variety without requiring a completely new house to be designed from the ground up for every planet.
The interior only needs to be created once. After that, additional exterior skins could be added over time.
It could also create opportunities for future skins linked to events, professions, factions, collections, veteran rewards or crafted items.
Players would get more choice, while the development work could be focused mainly on creating new exterior appearances rather than entirely new house interiors every time.
- Motivation
- At the moment, players already have several house styles to choose from, including Naboo, Corellia, Generic and Tatooine designs. The problem is that these are separate house types, with their own layouts and styles, rather than different appearances for the same house.
The idea behind this proposal is to expand that choice without needing a completely new house every time. One new house could be introduced with a single interior layout, then different exterior skins could make it look like a Naboo, Tatooine, Corellia or other planet themed property.
This would give players more visual choice while keeping the development work more manageable. It would also make it easier to add new planet themed housing options in the future without needing to design and build an entirely new interior for every version.
Add a new player house design that uses the same internal layout on every planet, but allows the outside appearance to be changed using exterior skins. This would mean one house could have a Tatooine, Naboo, Corellia, Rori, Talus or Lok style exterior while keeping the same interior, footprint and decoration space.
