Proposal
I propose a new tool, purchasable with Station tokens, be added that allows the combining of two previously Reverse Engineered (REd) parts of the same RE level. The resultant part would have the best stats from each input part with no new % bonus. These tools would be single use items that would have to be used by a shipwright.

Ideally, the tool will also allow the shipwright the ability to choose the displayed graphic as well. Examples such as weapon firing effect, cannon style, engine style ect.
Justification
This will give a couple of benefits to players without introducing any real power creep since it is not introducing any increase in performance in regards to the RE percentage increase was added in the initial RE phase.

1. It will allow players to fix less than desirable RE projects. We all have one or two that we wish we would have waited a little longer to get that next matching stat.

2. It will allow players to immediately use looted components rather than storing them for any length of time while waiting for the perfect matching stats. For example, a player with a great mass weapon can RE it with good enough stats now, and down the road as he/she gets a better damage, EPS or refire, it can be added in.
Motivation
I want everyone to be able to use great parts, and never feel bad about "wasting" a good stat because of ignorance or impatience.
For everyone who ever had a bad RE job, and wished for a do-over.

I love the idea of this tool so much. We've discussed it at length in the space chat and I really can't think of any glaring negatives, as long as we use the actual RE level of the parts rather than the cert level, to ensure consistency. NSG assured me that the RE level is still stored on a part, even after it is RE'd, it's just not displayed any longer.

This removes any decision making from REing. If you have the credits you can just mash what you have together and then mash in better parts as they come until you’ve built an elite part without having to put in any thought on matching stats.

There will be no more projects or saving parts for exchange, everyone would just pay the fee and mash their best parts together until they reach their end goal.

The sky isn't always falling every time someone has a new idea. There might be some legitimate concerns about the effect this has on game play. What you just described, no planning, just wasting looted parts and station tokens on never ending "mash togethers", that would never happen. SWG players aren't that dumb. But if it did, how would that be a negative?

My main concern is a lack of higher end parts.

Let's say I have a W0 right now

5500 post max

I loot a w0 that can do 5550 post

Right now I'm not doing a new project for 50 more max damage. The part would get sold someone else finishes their project. Economy keeps ticking.

In this proposal it would get rolled into my project.

So I've taken 2 good max damages out of the game.

Now x that by every stat on every item.

I like the idea for fixing or being able to roll good stats earlier.

However I 100% believe this needs a cap of some sort.

Like a 5x limit so still requires thought planning and doesn't stop parts hitting the market.

i don't do space , but why not do it like it is with speeder parts? cause you can keep reing the same part over and over till you hit cap parts

First, I would not do what you described. I would start a new project or sell the new stat.
Second, if a lot of players do what you described, the prices for those parts goes up. I don't know if that is inherently bad.

Removes player choice/decision-making as stated in Discord Senate channel. Not in favor of combining stats.

Graphic/naming change would be a great QoL upgrade though. In favor of that aspect.

There are a couple people concerned with choice, planning, decision making. This will be in the form of a tool you would choose to use. It will not be required. You can continue to complete RE projects the same way you do now. I don't think this change is going to cause otherwise intelligent thinking humans into wasteful idiots that don't even consider what they are doing. Parts will still hold value. Players aren't going to waste that for no benefit.

That’s like saying you have a choice whether or not to use food buffs for ground PvP. Can you not use them? Sure. You’re severely gimping your potential if you don’t. Same “choice” with this re-RE tool.

That's not even close to the same thing. If we are going to compare apples to oranges, I don't know what to do with that.

Ok, apples to apples.

Let’s say you have an A-wing with a post e8 120.3ts and 19k mass. You loot a raw 18.5k mass so you can shave 1.5k+ mass off your engine. That lets you put in some bigger armor plates or whatever you want to make your ship more capable.

What’s your choice?

Let me see if I got this straight? You want a new tool that let's a SW take one completed RE project, and combine it with one raw RE piece of loot, to get a new RE project?

Why make it purchasable with station tokens? Why not simply make it craftable by SW? Do that, and I would upvote it.

I actually think the idea was for it to be a schematic you buy with tokens that requires a shipwright. I definitely think having shipwrights involved is a core feature

Both parts would be post RE, hence already have the bonus and not getting another bonus.
As the PV states, the SW would do the work. It would be a limited use schematic to make the process costly to the end user. We will have to come up with the resources cost to the SW to make a profit down the road, but will definitely be involved.

You just described one of the benefits of this. If I, or anyone else, did that, where is the unfair advantage? Would it make it an advantage to pvp with the heavier engine for months? Would there be some unfair advantage to pve like gaining credits or loot faster?

I think it's more a case of.

Normally that 18.5k would go for sale. You're not going to do another project. So there's an element of trickle down.

This is my issue with it.

That trickle down isn't going to happen.

We have all sold great stats that we could use but don't want to start another project.

So those great stats trickle down and the person below completes a project.

They in turn sell the item the project replaced.

Trickles down again.

I'll use my recent S0 as an example.

Seller had a good shield already and whilst the 3370 would post higher than they had they didn't want to start a new project, so I bought the 3370.

That allowed me to make my new one.

I sold my 42k 3250 to someone who had a 44k 3000, they then sold that to someone who was using an S8.

That was 4 people benefited from 1 part that wouldn't have happened had this tool existed 2 month ago.

That's my only worry of it.

Heck there's a W0 I have I'd love to trim the mass on and all for the tool as a concept, there's just this worry it's going g to lead to a massive hoarding of parts and destroys that whole trickle down economy.
