Reduce the cost of all player placed houses to 1 lot

Reduce the cost of all player placed houses to 1 lot

Proposal
  • All homes would cost 1 lot when placed and allow 100 items for their base storage.
  • Players would be able to use their available lots to increase the item space in their home by 100 per lot used (via the Structure Management Terminal).
  • For reward/special homes that currently allow more than 100 items per lot, players could convert the structure into a storage box (the size of the *extra storage) that could be used in another structure. I am not sure how this would work, maybe the player radials the deed and chooses to convert the deed into extra storage... but hopefully the process would be reversable if the player later decides to use that structure.
Edit for clarity: reward/special homes would also require 1-lot to be placed but would retain their extra storage.
*extra storage is anything greater than (number of lots) x (100). Example: the Hangar requires 2 lots and allows 500 item storage, so it has 300 extra storage.
Justification
Encourages players to choose/use the houses they like and add to them, rather than weighing/choosing what's most efficient. If players are using additional homes just for storage, this would allow them to consolidate everything into one house if they wanted. I don't know if this can be done lol... I imagine it would probably be a huge headache to implement.
Motivation
Along with adding flexibility, this would give players a reason to participate in content to earn those special reward structures even if they don't want to use the actual structures.
Imagine not having a reason to prioritize item space or lot size over aesthetic....

Voting on this suggestion has been paused.
Going to downvote as there are ways to get storage increase already in the game and lots matter and we already have too many lots.

I respect your opinion/choice. "we already have too many lots" ... as someone fairly new and deeply into crafting/resource farming, I so envy your perspective.

edit to add: nothing in my post suggested adding lots, just the ability to use them more flexibly.

Downvote as well , while i would love to have more lots for selfish reasons, this is going to have a negative effect on premium rare structures
-By making all structures 1 lot, all the premium structures suddenly are worth less
-Premium structures will become a dime a dozen and will lose their rare status

The devs have made the comment about the lots as well. This game is supposed to be about people being dependent on other people rather than do it all yourself. That is how it was designed and what helps drive the player economy. So not just my opinion in this case. Plus you can get a lot of storage from collections as well as from tokens. No need to redo a whole system.

The premium structures are the ones that have more item storage than 100 per lot, right? Wouldn't there be more of a demand from people who haven't collected them to at least use that extra storage on existing structures?

I don't know that we have *too* many lots, 10 per toon feels fair. But I definitely don't think the solution is bringing all lots down to 1. It doesn't make sense for a giant house to take 1 lot. I definitely understand the need for more storage, but there are ways to fix that currently. I'm sorry, it'll be a down vote for me.

You can complete the housing improvement collection and get 700 extra right there and use a token to get 500 more for each. So 1 token and 1 completed collection gets you 1200 extra storage. You can use more than one token as well if you want. Not to mention the bank and storage droids if needed as well. Vendors, don't forget vendors as well.

You are right, we have too many alts really. But that can't be undone and 10 per is fair.

Correct
:)

Just FWIW, I had this idea after playing the original through all its iterations and figured I'd add it here. The idea was more based on more flexibility of lot usage and making all houses available to all types of players. I am good with my tents and hangar (yes, with the storage collections added), but having a wider variety of options would be saweet af.

The original game was supposed to be a sandbox where people could play how they want. If we wanted more toons, we created more accounts. If we wanted more lots, we did lot trades. This system has guardrails in place for how these devs want their version to be played and I totally respect that... to be fair, more lots was not the intent of this post -- flexibility was.

Maybe try a different tact and remove planet restrctions from houses for more diversity (and more ugly combo's).

The way I read this... was that you could use a 'Lot' to increase storage on a structure.... so the lot count/availabiltiy would not be affected... For instance, you could place a Small Naboo House (Style 2) which requires one lot, and stores 100 items... you could use your remaining 9 lots to increast the storage on THAT house to 1000 items... If that is indeed what was intended, I like the idea... as it would declutter the galaxy and provide more options for varied gameplay, without affecting any aspect of gameplay.

That was definitely one aspect of it, yes! :-)

Except it did not say that.

I understand the idea of every house variation essentially being a 'skin', though there's a lot of focus on the storage aspect in this PV.
You can currently choose to place down whatever structure you want, obviously the larger ones take more lots and so there's a trade off between housing and factories/harvesters. Functionally there will be no difference between a 5 lot structure and a 1 lot + 4 'storage' structure, I feel this PV is suggesting a lot of work to solve what is a bit of a non issue.

I am excited about the city/housing update, and since we are all die hard swg grinders, patience has likely been beaten into us as we smile in enjoyment.

The choice of having what structure you want is appealing, flexibility as you mentioned. I went with a large house because it appealed to me on live. 5 lots means I had to make a choice to only have 2 characters viable with harvesters. I was happy to do so as I liked this house, and while I did not have to compromise this on live, the nostalgia was too big to pass up. There are several special houses, some easy to get, some harder to get that require only 2 or 3 lots and are significantly larger in size than my large house, but those did not appeal to me. I like this idea and you have my upvote.

On a side note about communities and my experience with them, and a thank you for your post.
The devs have a vision, and from my experience ideas are brought up to discuss and perhaps spark more ideas to enhance or extend that vision. The path and vision that they have is not linear and will change as Restoration ages. It is brilliant that the devs give us a platform to do so in.

The community will always push back against devs or other players, as people do not like change and typically lack the ability to see outside of their own gameplay/experience. Heck some may not even read or understand the ask, but do a down vote, because change baaad! raawr!. Then a year goes by and someone with some pull (senate, dev, whoever) has this idea that is either exact or similar, and now that person is up against the community with that idea. It catches momentum and gets pushed through. As a whole, this has been my experience in any community I have been a part of, whether it is work or play.
