- Proposal
- Introduction
The purpose of this PV is to work on a revamp to the three static bases on Naboo, Corellia and Talus, to make them a more attractive space to pvp in, whilst keeping the general theme of holding a base for additional rewards.
This PV will focus on these four main areas:
- Stim Rewards
- Base Control Reset
- War Contribution
- Mercs
1. Stim Rewards
1a. Timing
Today:
- Stim A: Given upon base flip
- Stim B: +12 hours from base flip
- Stim C: +24 hours from base flip
- Stim D: +48 hours from base flip
- Stim E: +96 hours from base flip
- Total time invested: 1 hour to take the base, 96 hours to hold (~4 days)
Proposed:
- Stim A: Given upon base flip
- Stim B: +6 hours from base flip
- Stim C: +12 hours from base flip
- Stim D: +24 hours from base flip
- Stim E: +48 hours from base flip
- Total time invested: 1 hour to take the base, 48 hours to hold (~2 days)
Why?
- Holding a base for 4 days straight actually reduces interest in these bases due to the monotony
- By reducing the the timing down to half, earning Stim E's still feels like an effort, but on a more manageable scale.
- In addition, access to Stim C's at 12 hours feels much closer in effort to planning, organising and running 2 battlefields (win) / 4 battlefields (lose) which can then be used to purchase four stim sets from the bf vendors (more on this later) than the old 24 hour timer
1b. Rotation
Today:
- Each base has a static set of stims provided for each one, the list can be seen here: https://swgr.org/wiki/galactic_civil_war/?redirect=gcw#-gcw-static-bases
- The 'best' stim set is on Naboo due to the damage increase booster packs, which leads to that base always being prioritised
- Talus base only provides non-combat stims for non-combat professions making it the least important and engaged
Proposed:
- Each Sunday when bases are reset (more on this later) the vendor stock should be randomised between a set of 4 stims types from the available pool
- This would also lock in one of the three E stims available should the base reach the 48hr mark
Why?
- This change would mean each base has a completely random set of stock every week. Whilst this doesn't remove the issue with the damage stims being the most sought after, it does allow for bases to be more equally important should players / factions what to obtain a 'full set'.
1c. BF Vendor Stims
Today:
- Stim D's are currently available from the Battlefield vendors for 5 BF tokens per stack
Proposed:
- Stim C's would be the newly proposed level of stims available for BF tokens
Why?
- With Petra providing double BF tokens for every match, there is really no shortage of tokens to go around, especially at the 5 token price point. These stims are not that expensive to buy, and giving players the opportunity to jump straight to Stim D's takes away a large reason to even partake in these bases. C's still provide value in exchange for tokens, but allows the stronger D's and E's to remain exclusive to base control, thus driving participation if you want the best.
2. Base Control Reset
Today:
- The static bases no longer reset upon server restart, and so one faction will hold them indefinitely until the other comes to challenge them
Proposed:
- Bases should be reset to neutral each week with a random element to the timing to avoid a 'hot spot' hour. This should take place on the Sunday
- NPCs should be able to be queried about the time the base will be reset similar to how they can be used to check the time for the next Stim phase
Why?
- As it stands, if bases are not challenged, one faction holds the ability to constantly buy and utilise Stim E's. Whilst this shouldn't be an issue, the population sometimes struggles with rallying their side to take back control of these sites, leading to further imbalance.
- With a weekly reset to coincide with the stim vendor stock changes, bases will once again be free to be fought over, and may be more appealing to the side currently struggling more for numbers
- In conjunction with the proposed changes to Stim phases, this should make fighting over the bases more appealing due to the reduced effort levels
- If bases fall out of favour for pvp, one side will no longer hold the ability to gain Es all the time, nor receive scoring towards the war (more on that in the next section)
3. War Contribution
Today:
- The three static bases currently provide no contribution to the overall war effort
Proposed:
- Bases should provide a passive bonus for holding them around the 7,000 per day mark
Why?
- To better fall in line with the changes made in the Shatterpoint patch, the bases should provide a passive bonus for holding them. The 7,000 per day mark, places them in between the scoring for a Field Hospital and Tactical Centre base, which I feel is fair given the level of involvement required, without suddenly making them an absolute requirement to win the war itself.
4. Merc Involvement
Today:
- As of a recent patch, Mercs are now allowed into the static base zones, and to interreact with the terminals to help flip bases
- They are not permitted to engage with the vendors, thus locking them out of the stims
Proposed:
- Mercs would be allowed to purchase stims up to Stim D's but not E's at the same rate as factional players, but using Merc tokens
Why?
- This would allow Mercs to benefit from the content, but still keep the advantages of belonging to a faction in place as has been mentioned as a key design principal previously.
- Stim D's still provides a bonus above those given out from the BF vendor (assuming that change is also implemented)
- Justification
- The Static bases have somewhat lost their value from stims due to the BF vendor, and also the overall war effort post Shatterpoint due to a lack of scoring. These bases are a great area for PvP, however they need some adjustments to bring them in line.
- Motivation
- The Static bases provide a good location for PvP, and would allow for another focused area outside of the Flashpoints & Restuss to take world PvP. We should be looking to provide these varied environments to keep engagement high and avoid one thing become the go-to type of activity.
Let me know if any questions or concerns, looking forward to discussing.
