Proposal
Add new tailor crafted "saddlebags" for vehicles which function similarly to storage droids.
Justification
Everybody uses vehicles. It would make sense we'd be able to strap a bag or a box to them to carry our stuff. Tailors already have all the components to create wearable containers and a system to add/remove components to our vehicles already exists. These could be added to vehicles similarly to how we add components at the garage.
Motivation
More business for tailors which could always use a small boost in generating credits.

Everybody needs more space. Always.

Looking into Star Wars movies, comics, shows, etc., there are many variations of personal vehicles and often times they have some kind of box, net, or bag strapped to them to carry things. I've always looked at the saddlebags on a swoop and wished we could use them. Most cars come with a trunk, most bikes can be outfitted with bags. There has already been some amazing improvements to how vehicles work and this could just be an added touch.
Functional and QOL, would affect the vast majority of players positively.

I don't see the need for it with all the storage droids we can have. It's not really a QOL thing imo as we already have the droids for that, it's just another variant of something that already exists. I do really like the idea of something else for tailors though. If we didn't have the droid option for storage, I'd upvote it for sure. As it is, I don't see this as something worthy of dev time. Maybe a saddle for the creature mounts that improves their movement speed by 10% or something for those areas on kashyyyk where you are forced to use them over speeders.

There’s lancer out there already, why do we need fencer, it’s just another melee profession. There’s rifleman, why bother with pistols…
Because diversity is the spice of life. Because people want to “live” in a galaxy where they can make the choice to handle their storage whichever way they like. There is a need for more tailor income, there is an existing system where we upgrade our vehicles with garages and parts and there is always a need for more storage room.
Make the saddlebags 50 slot instead of 30 like droids and people will happily pay a premium for it. Hell, make the components needed to craft it dropped by scrappers as well and people will happily hunt for them and craft amazing cargo bags.
I do like your idea of saddles for mounts crafted by tailors to speed up mounts, that would be cool.

Those combat professions have differing roles/specialties and abilities and function differently in game so they provide something new. This is copying something that already exists and applying it to something else. Your altered proposal at least makes it a bit different, adds some justification to it.

Ok, here’s other examples… why do we have 20+ different types of vehicles? Why couldn’t we just stop at the simple swoop bike considering they all do the same thing. Different colored saber crystals!? Malarkey!! 30 different schematics for pants that add zero stats or abilities… the horror! Player made quests when the game already has so many!? Whyyy!?

I get where you’re coming from, but I don’t understand why you’re against the idea of versatility in storage solutions.

The idea of saddlebags can always be fleshed out. It could be a dropped schematic to justify the larger capacity. It could use exotic materials or use materials where quality matters (unlike most tailor schematics) and the higher the material quality, the more storage slots, up to a certain cap. It could require components from different professions to encourage trade and business. It could be a badge collection which unlocks the schematic. It could be a repeatable quest. I could go on.

I can flesh out the idea as much as you’d like but I simply don’t understand why you’d flat out be against it because “something similar already exists” this game is full of similar things with different flavors and that’s what makes all the content interesting and every character and adventure customizable to no end.

Just need to be careful about balance. If saddlebags or trunks end up better than storage droids, it could hurt that part of the crafting economy. Splitting it by profession helps with that. Bio-Engineer or Domestics could handle creature mount saddlebags, while Engineer, Structure, or Shipwright handle vehicle trunks. That spreads the work and keeps multiple crafting lines relevant. I’d also suggest the inventory work like a pop the trunk system. You have to call the vehicle or mount, dismount, and then access the storage from it directly. That keeps it from replacing storage droids in the field and makes it feel more like true vehicle or mount storage.

Agreed. In essence they would work like storage droids, have to call the vehicle and radial the container. If they were to be implemented, they could be done in a way where they do have an edge over droids in terms of capacity but are far more complicated to acquire and/or craft in order to make them more expensive. Currently storage droids sell for 10/15k, if we kept saddlebags at a higher storage capacity but also higher price point, I don’t think it would disrupt droid business.

If you do it, do it with mounts too.
If you do it, do it in a way that does not devalue storage droids, or have it significantly harder to obtain than storage droids.

Edit: Just throwing this in here - For vehicles could be an alternative component taking the booster slot. Adds some drawbacks, adds some balance, still gives a lot of QoL.

It's not against the versatility in storage solutions I just don't see the point in spending valuable devs hours on something that doesn't really improve the game. I'd much rather see the time spent on something that is needed.
