- Proposal
- 1st, I propose to modify the Y-8's tractor beam. I don't know the technical (dev) side of how to do this, but my recommendation would be to create a new POB(Y-8 only) tractor beam. This tractor beam would be able to take in the larger chunk (B from above) instead of requiring you to hit it again and chase the smaller chunks (C).
2nd, I would like to see an increase in the amount of asteroid ore you take in, maybe somewhere in the neighborhood of a 10-25% increase. (I'd take more if they're willing)
- Justification
- Currently there's really no real benefit to use a Y-8. Sure the cargo hold is way larger, but it handles like... well, a POB. Chasing down those small chunks (C) is a real pain in a Y-8. I personally feel its more efficient to mine in a fighter, preferably something like an adv X or tie def.
Shipwrights are always hurting for asteroid ore, speeding up the process would only help as it would make the task less tedious.
- Motivation
- The motivation for this change is for two main reasons: to help shipwrights get a resource that is only used (and needed) by them, AND it would help fix the Y-8. The Y-8 has bad gun placements for a POB, and as stated above, handles too poorly to be efficient at mining. This change would make it worth using.
I have a few suggestions to try to help out our shipwrights and space miners.
To refresh memories and get people on the same page, here is how space mining currently works:
You fly out to the asteroid (let's call it A) then hit it with a mining laser. A large chunk breaks off and floats away. (call this B) You then need to hit that large chunk with a mining laser which gives you a bunch of small chunks (call them C). The small chunks you can either hit with a mining laser for less ore, or grab with a tractor beam to maximize your haul. This is how it currently works in all ships,. fighters, Y-8, etc.
