- Proposal
- Change the current group UI so that each individual group member’s player bar can be detached and moved independently, rather than being locked into a single fixed 7-player cluster.
Specifically:
- Each group member bar (HAM, buffs, status) should be draggable on its own
- Add an option to keep the current behavior as default (linked cluster) or enable independent bars
- Include a reset-to-default option for layout recovery
- Justification
- The current grouped cluster limits UI customization and situational awareness, especially in group combat scenarios. Roles such as healers, and support players (like squad leaders doing high yield or toughen or jedi's using bubble) benefit significantly from being able to prioritize and visually separate specific group members.
Allowing independent movement would:
- Improve reaction time for healing and support actions
- Reduce screen clutter by letting players spread bars logically
- Support different screen resolutions, UI scales, and accessibility needs
- Motivation
- Group content in SWGR often involves fast-paced combat (example Tusken King where you split groups) where tracking multiple players’ HAM and status effects is critical. The current locked cluster makes it difficult to prioritize specific players, especially in 7–8 person groups.
As UI customization expectations have evolved, the inability to reposition individual group bars stands out as a limitation. This suggestion aims to modernize the UI experience while staying true to SWG’s original systems.
