- Proposal
- Give all ship components a form of condition decay, and add repair kits to fix this decay.
- Justification
- By having components decay, there will be some components that are worth just rebuying; but for those limited or RE components there will be repair kits from SW. This primarily serves to enhance SW to be able to sell more parts, while also serving as a counterbalance to the income spacers currently generate.
- Motivation
- Currently, shipwrights sell the fittings for a POB etc once to a person to fit their ship and then never again. Even on fighters, the crafted components are slowly replaced with RE components, resulting in a non-diminishing pool of crafted parts available on the server.
For the component decay, it would ideally last around 100-300hours of space gameplay time. For even the busiest space player this means most components would last a few weeks to a month. By having repair kits for multimillion credit part, like REs, or limited parts, like the delta cap, there is an associated cost that SWs can benefit from after crafting those parts for free, knowing there will be return business.
Some other facts to consider(THESE ARE NOT THIS PV):
Death decay in space might not be needed, definitely not in space pvp(as defined by dying to the last hit of a player ship) due to how many times space pvpers die on an average day and the inanity of covering a ship in moof mud.
The tuning of decay rate, and resources used to make the repair kit, give the devs great control over the cost of spacing and the value cutoff of repairing(ie is it worth repairing a borstel? a null bolt?).
