Proposal
add an in game box pop up lobby queue system
Justification
easier community grouping
Motivation
far to many to name
Whilst I am fully aware discord-galaxy chat/guild chat has many tools to assist with grouping, events etc in just about every other game I play from a FPS game to Fifa etc it has a pre game lobby to fill a server.

One of the experiences in game which I find most difficult is finding the correct number of people at a given time (not being someone who lives in the states) to complete a higher end or grouped quests I need to, this of course meaning Heroics/mustafar/kashyyyk along with others.

not only will this make things easier for unguilded people, a newer player jumping into the game would get to experience anything added such as Hoth by simply being added to a queue system.....much like in SWTOR which has the same system Im refereeing to of which I found much much easier to test out all the content such as 4 man raids.

not only this sometimes I don't want to sit down and run through 2/3 hours of raids, having a system like this of someone dropping and being filled would speed things up

This would also bring the community together in times where the server isn't so busy...I know this wouldn't be for everyone especially whom oh which play on nightmare modes and don't like failing in PVP/PVE but for me Im perfectly fine with having fun on easy modes just spending my time enjoying heroics etc.

Seconded. We've created the SWG Grouping discord channel to help address this problem but not everyone is aware of it. Having a build in queuing tool can help get everyone involved, promote ad hoc groups but also help with other content, like heroic pre-quests and Mustafar, that is otherwise tricky to organise people for.

Upvoted too. Maybe have it only queue for easy modes as I do worry about auto creating groups having the issues of being all melee tanks or not having gear or a viable build and trying to do hard/nm

I agree for easy mode, maybe normal too. As a UK player it would be far easier to find a group server wide. Would also bring the community closer together imho, met different players etc Be very helpful to for new players.

Upvoted as well, I do love this idea from a UK player also as at times it can be hard to get groups and not everyone looks at the Galaxy chat or responds to it.

This kind of feature ruined several MMO's for me personally. I understand the arguments, and temporarily it may solve the issue but in the end it isn't worth doing.

It damages so many small things and is one of the reasons modern MMO's just are not fun to play. The social aspect of an MMO is just as important as anything else and taking away the need to talk to others hinders that even further.

The best way to get people to want to do content is making it worth doing and making the game fun to play.

A lot of my EU friends personally left for various reasons, but this solution won't suddenly fix the problem it will make an already small galaxy feel even smaller.

I think if something like this was to be implemented, the back end mechanics would also need to be made for it too. Such as vote kick players, gear checks, back fill for player spots who quit / get kicked etc etc.

Whilst I personally love this idea, I like the ability to do what I want when I want too. BUT equally how many times have you been in an instance in SWTOR and its just filled with bad's or low gear / poor geared players and turns it into a disappointing experience.

unless this was capped at a easy difficulty I fear it would cause a lot of frustration for decent players playing with people who are not geared up or what ever.

Then on top of this you also have the instances lock out timers which come into play, I can see it resulting in bad experiences for players in general.

It will entirely depend on what is possible within the realm of developer time and what the game code can support. There is no gear score mechanic or such in SWGR so it would be hard to police ensuring people are appropriately geared for harder runs but it would be a huge boon for token runs on easy or normal, where there isn't such a stiff requirement.

I also entirely disagree with you Derpyh. As an EU player the servers are thin on the ground during my core playing hours due to the time difference and this would allow me to connect with people who are online when things are quiet, and pick up random groups to meet others. This would facilitate the social element, not detract from it, especially as familiar faces pop up routinely. 2nd hand experience does not trump lived experience!

I do take all of whose points of view, however.... at the end of my post I did say I fully understand this wouldn't be for everyone i.e the players that are Geared up(I do say this being someone who has a full temp jedi geared up)

when you refer to the social aspect being as important as anything surely giving more tools to group together would help this?

some of the players I run things with in game are just chance meetings, something like this would give a almost social hub to help bring players together such as people who don't grind millions of credits or just raid after raid racking up thousands of tokens etc.

In some way it almost feels as if you have to get fully Geared play on nightmare mode know 100% what youre doing or you get Zero experience in fear you might upset a more hardcore player and make a bad experience for that person....

this being said skill based match making pre lobbies has been put into many many games for the same reasons such as players not having levelled up weapons.

I can boil that down though to just the game having issues. From what I remember the EU players had about the same and better players. I also don't see how it facilitates social interaction, anyone who says that should go play FF14 and tell me your experiences in groups there since it's one of the most modern mmos out there.

Same with SWTOR even, it ended up just being a silent run, nobody talks to each other, and I can hardly see runs like TK being successful if that is the case.

I have way too much experience with MMO's to tell you that this is more of a population problem. If the developers decide they want this type of thing though, it's their game.

Yes, because it's happened since 2007 and it's been the same up till 2025 for every game that has this feature and uses it frequently. Human's are lazy and they will only talk to each other if they have to.

SWG is a game designed to force players to interact with each other, so implementing things that are the opposite of that is against the spirit of it. It's why I am against things like auto-tipping features and automating entertainer. I am against anything that makes it so you don't have to meet and talk to other players.

Plus, even if the feature was designed, won't it just be like BF's where people wait in que for hours because nobody is playing? Its a pure population issue.

The smaller the community, the more difficult it is for ad hoc groups to form. We have a hard enough time getting people to show up for scheduled events. While I think it would be wonderful if this system existed and people were utilizing it all day long, I just don't see that happening. Therefore, I'm concerned about the amount of investment this would require for a feature that seldom gets utilized.

I could see this being more popular than BF queues - largely because PvE is generally more popular as a whole. I also disagree that we should look to what happens in other MMO's and think the same will happen here in regards to interaction/chatting, it's a different game/community.

I'd also say that just because people don't use show up for scheduled events etc doesn't mean much, people might not know their schedules ahead of time, or might not want to sign up for 3 runs-full clear (which is often the case) - maybe they just want to do one instance etc. And devs have also said previously that 'developer time' shouldn't be a barrier to things as they want a backlog of ideas for the future.

I've upvoted it personally. It seems like a lot of the opposition to it is based on assumptions (won't get used, it will damage social interactions, it will be frustrating).

I agree with all you said.

I would like to add I never voted for nor against it.

I just said my concerns and I can see it been a positive addition to the game.

But like I said I can see it also causing people to get upset in kicked or rage quitting etc

Depending on the developer load it would take, it would be possible to queue as a role - DPS, Tank, Healer, Support I'm sure, which would help ensure there's some control over group composition.

It shouldn't create silent runs as there's group chat which is widely used in Live, even before Teamspeak/Ventrillo became popular :)

Definitely do not want to see this implemented. Really hated what it did to WoW and other games regarding community interaction. One of the brighter spots to this game is the community interactions imo.
