Add more utility to creature mounts

Add more utility to creature mounts
This idea/suggestion has been flagged as Feedback Needed by the development team. See the post from the developers asking for follow-up discussion or alternative suggestions to discuss.
Proposal
Proposing some changes to boost the effectiveness of mounts. Creature Handlers will get a boost to mount speed / endurance at Novice, Creature Training IV, and Master and make mounts act like vehicles (don't disappear when you dismount). . Lastly, there should be tiers of mounts based on speed and creatures should be divided in these groups- the fastest creatures would be in tier III while the slowest creatures would be in tier I.
Justification
To make mounts more effective so they can be used just as often as vehicles. This will also give them more utility.
Motivation
Mounts, while cool, don't really serve any function and they are not practical means of travel.
Creature mounts have always been a cool concept in Star Wars Galaxies, but I think with a few tweaks, they could be made even better. They do not really work as an alternative to a speeder or swoop because they simply do not move fast enough- I think that should be changed with a few boosts.

At Novice Creature Handler, gaining a 25% boost to mount speed and gallop endurance. At Creature Training IV, gaining an addition 25% boost to mount speed and gallop endurance. At Master Creature Handler, gaining an additional 30% boost to mount speed and gallop endurance for a total of 80%.

Lastly, make mounts be in a tiered ranking system by speed (tier I, II and III) with the fastest creatures being in tier III and the slowest creatures being in tier I.

Mounts could do with some attention. Making them a vehicle alternative is not it. Its about picking their function in game and making them better at that narrow brief than a vehicle - which is in turn better in its specific role.

Agreed, Having mounts run around at the same speed as swoops would look ridiculous.

I love mounts. I am confused about the disappearing when you dismount. They don't disappear. They either follow you or you can pet them to have them sit down or take a nap and wait for you to return. Nice way to not mess up your house! I do miss doing the flip trick while on my Kaadu and doing flips!

I would like some of the larger mounts to be able to sit more than one person!

So I just recently started playing on resto. Great server and I love it!

Here is my take on creature mounts...

As they are now, they are very cool looking, have some niche uses (RP, or where vehicles cannot be used), but are otherwise just taking up space in my datapad. Even though my main is a MCH, I don't generally use creature mounts, though I would love to if they had good utility.

My personal vision for what a creature mount should be is this:

1. Creature handlers should be able to use a mount as their preferred method of transportation. Maybe give a bonus to mount speed for MCH, not as fast as vehicles, but slightly faster than they are now. Ideal speed would be fast, but not so fast as to outrun our combat pets if they were following (see below).

2. Allow a MCH to have his combat pet out while riding a creature mount, just like riding as a passenger in someone else's vehicle (can't attack while mounted, etc). This would allow more functionality, and mobility when leveling combat pets and using pet supplements. Also, there would be a lot of "flavor" added to the game with this implementation, and I can't see a downside. I think it would look really cool to see a CH ride by on their mount, with their pet in tow.

3. Have mounts consume food. They could feed off of the food that already exists in game, or there could be a new food type added strictly for mounts, ex. "bale of hay" or "pile of viscera" depending on the mount type. The food could be the source of the increased movement speed in the form of a run speed buff, even though gallop already exists, it would be like gallop plus plus! Not sure the juice is worth the squeeze on this one, as the amount of work to code it all in would be huge. But it would be cool.

Faster more usefull mounts would always be a plus.
when i play with my wife and son. my AB-1 speeder or my Lava Skuff only things i us.
seems would be good to be able to have faster mount, but maybe a CH can have x2 people. or more on larger mounts.
Bantha would easy carry 2, and i know the Lizard from clone wars would. be good to see more function to a given mount..

Super Rare.. Non-combat but maybe Krayte dragon.... Juevinil mount... CH tame/tain non-combat cool mount.. lol
used to be in LIVE even if was short lived.... (we had one but after certain point could not remove from datapad) but could not call it unless Master CH, but could not fight or mount...
be cool to have something like that..matched with the already smaller pets. could be a good combo.
+1
Cool stuff

Sounds good. Not sure how could be added would be a bit of work... but maybe?!?

Bump for faster mounts and more useful in general.

Mounts on live were awesome compared to walking, now we start with a car so mounts are rarely used.

I’d use some super fast lizard or bird mount instead of a swoop if it was faster, just for better noise.

The new cargo missions might be a good chance for mounts to shine. Surely a bantha with cargo strapped to it is faster than a swoop loaded with cargo. Plus you can dismount to fight while running and your mount can keep moving along. Or give them some combat abilities only when doing cargo missions.

yes please

First, This is an awesome idea and thanks to the OP for bringing it forward.

Agree Strongly with:
*Master CH having mods in the master box that drastically increase mount movement speed.
*Master CH having the ability to train Mounts with specific traits (Including increased speed). This would provide a fun and more interactive mount system and give CH a pathway to "making creds" which is lacking with CH currently.

Additional suggestion: (not the first to touch on these suggestions)
*The Master CH training system could be expanded to other areas by increasing movement while encumbered or carry capacity/inventory options etc.

Comments:
I think Mounts should remain slightly slower than vehicles but I also think the system should be expanded in other ways to increase mount value and functionality IE inventory/encumbered carry etc... This would be inline with some creatures having extreme carry capacity but being slower and others being extremely fast with low carry capacity (balance speed vs capacity/load).

Dislike:
I am not a fan of adding food in any way unless it does not come from crafting. I personally feel that CH has given more than enough of its (endgame) play loop away to BE in regard to taming/training.

Some more ideas for traits (maybe depending on species type?):
- Reduced aggro range while riding the mount (might be interesting for crafters and non combat characters)
- Improved survey range while riding the mount
- Reduced cooldown of mount boost / gallop
- Two seater mounts
- Harvest bonus while mount is out for manuel harvesting (unlike droid auto harvesting)
- Mounts with small inventory like storage droids

Generally i think theres room to seperate between mounts and vehicles for different usecases.
Vehicles - Long distance travel - Hop on and drive a long time
Mounts - Short distance with a lot of dismounting and remounting - This kinda is already a really good use-case for mounts since they auto follow when dismounted unlike vehicles.

Agree, your Vehicle vs Mounts use perspective is a good basis for the design philosophy.

The tiered skill idea would be cool if specific creature types were able to learn certain skills at a higher tier (as stated) example... large creatures being able to learn tier 3 cargo/inventory skills with inventory and cargo weight but they can only learn tier 1 mount speed skills.... So although they can carry cargo at normal speed due to training that speed is still slower than say a Cu pa that can learn a tier 3 speed skill but only a tier 1 cargo and inventory skill.... something like that.

Cargo skill simply being a caravan specific skill that reduces weight penalties to movement speed IF tied into that system. This not only adds value to mounts but gives them at least one very specific game mode to participate in IE a purpose.
