Proposal
When Doctors buff in a Medical Center (NPC or Player City), the duration of the buff should be increased by 15 minutes.
Justification
An extra 15 minutes should not cause any significant balance issues, nor should it affect the value of the Thyferran Module.
Motivation
Medical Centers serve very little purpose in Restoration - the passive wound healing is so low that it is irrelevant, and any increases to the Heal Wound skill (if there are any) are also irrelevant since 2-3 uses of the skill are usually enough to fully heal any wounds.

This results in most Doctors choosing to setup everywhere else (usually around Starports). This change will incentivise them to instead buff/heal at Medical Centers, which is where players (especially new ones) should logically expect to find them anyway.
I believe this change would also be in line with how Medical Centers interact with Medic Buffs in the NGE, so that is another precedent in favour of it.

im not a swg vet(played live but was too young for that to count for anything) . but i love this idea. i tip extra to docs set up in such facilities just for taking doc more seriously than others. ents get the same treatment when they treat their profs with some love. from me at least.

why don’t we just only allow buffing in camps and med centers like the true original. Same for entertainers in theatres and cantinas and camps.
Implement this and then make buff durations equal at 5 hours please..

A compromise between the PV suggestion and Aconites suggestion could be to give the increased time but make the droids only function in med centers and camps.
Doctors still have a use out in the field with the short buffs and they aren’t being further pushed to being bots only.

I would like to see some substantial benefit to using a medical center or a camp (same for ENTS using a theater, cantina or camp). Perhaps for Docs the droid can only be called in the med center or in a camp. Right now doctors act more like drug dealers standing on street corners trying to sell you something rather than a profession.

Pre-CU Doctor buffs could happen in starports, in front of them, in towns... I was never dr buffed in a med center. The majority of times I was buffed was by either by a guildie, or in front of Theed or Coronet starport.

Entertainers currently can't give 5.5 hour buffs anywhere but a cantina AFAIK. Doctors have always been like drug dealers.... In fact how good dr buffs were was dependent on how well they crafted their buff packs. Ditto for Combat medic poisons etc. I think Dr buffs should either be done in a camp, cantina, or med center and able to be 3.5 hour or reintroduce the pre-cu buff packs that are crafted with the buff length determined by the quality of the materials (DR) and craft with at least a 3 hour cap.

It's kind of goofy that the time lengths of dr buffs and ent buffs are so drastically different at the max end. Doing stuff like DWB, by the time you get there your med buffs are half (or at least a quarter) gone even with thyfferan extend. In PvE groups I usually don't bother with dr buffs. They simply don't do enough and don't last long enough to really matter much and be worth the trouble and expense.

Meanwhile an ent buff lasts just about all day.

for something like DDF by the time you get to the end boss most people's dr buffs are down when you really need them.

My 2 cents.... IMHO Pre-CU the way dr buffs/CM stuff worked was just right. Medical crafting was a thing that more than one class did. You say you like credit sinks? there's one, just give us some value for the sink.

I could be mistaken but it sounded to me like the motivation of the pv was to make med centers (or camps) feel more purposeful, and not necessarily add significant time to the buffs.

This opinion is sometimes in the minority but I’d like to see less incentives given to afk doc buff and I would categorize super long buffs as that. The pv of 15 min seems pretty reasonable, but alternatively (or additionally) limiting the use of buff droids to med centers and camps would also accomplish the pv’s goal, while not significantly altering gameplay. Docs out in the field can still buff, they just reapply every 40 min. Most people already don’t bother with the droids when they have a doc in the group.

This feels like a good PV. It's not game-breaking or making people want to change to (or away from) being a doctor and would bring a big roleplay/immersion to the profession.

Half the comments are about "how things were" back in the old days. This isn't about comparing it to previous iterations of SWG, whether that be Pre-CU live or whatever. It's taking what we have now, and an idea that would make the universe more "realistic". I dig it.

Upvoted.

I like the idea of longer duration doctor buffs if done inside a hospital
perhaps they can persist through death as well just like an ent buff
