Make Thyferran Buff Enhancement Droids Useable Only when Owned by a Master Doctor

Make Thyferran Buff Enhancement Droids Useable Only when Owned by a Master Doctor

Proposal
Make it so only droids owned by a master doctor can be radialed for a Thyferran buff enhancement.
Justification
Credits spent on Thyferran buffs should go to the doctor and the sink - not back to the person receiving the buff.
Motivation
I know doctor buffbots are the red-headed step children staring through the front porch window on Christmas day, but can we at least turn the porch light on for them?

Very few people actually tip doctor buffbots. The only revenue they have comes through their Thyferran buff enhancement droid. Please don't allow non-doctors to call and use their own Thyferran buff droid while using a doctor buffbot.

The Development Team has provided a final answer on this suggestion. Votes are no longer accepted.
You can fully buff players with Doc xx44, you're only missing 5% health regen and 5 minutes duration with Advanced Nutrient Injection, if its restricted it should be placed on Novice Doc (or one of xx4x/xxx4), not master

Show me where these xx44 buff bots are so I can put them in a headlock for fooling us all.

But seriously, allowing access to Novice Doctors creates a loophole that undermines the purpose of the change. In nearly all cases it will be 4xxx Doctors bringing their own droid to the buff bots to save some credits.

is there any pet droid that has a profession requirement? It seems like it would be a lot of work to create code for it. it may be simpler to make the doc buffs an active buff, a-la entertainer buffs.

The code to not make the buff accessible already exists. Currently doctor's get a system message every time they call the droid outside of a medical center or private residence. You would simply extend that message to when the droid owner isn't a master doctor.

Also, making doctor's be at the keyboard to buff when there are no decisions to be made (a-la entertainers) is demeaning to the sanctity of human life.

Maybe as a compromise to Banth’s point about xx44 doc buffing, the thyferran buff only grants bonus duration when buffed by that droid owner?

Thus you couldn’t use your own droid to get extended buffs from anyone but yourself. It might also discourage putting 5 docs in a cluster at the doorway of the med center(because it would be hard to select the right droid).

I agree it is not intended for players to self enhance their own buffs. I am inclined to just block this directly unless someone has a better solution. The skill based check seems unnecessary with the change.

A direct block works fine. I figured it might be a bit more complex than a skill-based check, but either way is fine by me.

Why are doctors the only profession allowed to make AFK credits? I appreciate being able to get a buff from an AFK doctor, but most other AFK or semi-AFK credits have been neutered lately. This seems similar to an entertainer having a cover charge.

Because they don’t get “system-generated” benefits, meaning the system isn’t spitting out credits, other players are tipping them (or getting a percentage from the buff module). That’s always been our distinction on being AFK. It’s also just a bit of a practical matter from the dynamics of the NGE-style doctor.

I'm assuming if you have a Doc alt you can still doc buff your other alt with the buff enhancers? or does that mean it's account locked?

Yes currently seeker and probe droids are just BH and detonation droids are BH/Smuggler.

I’m generally in favor of increasing the number of profession specific droids in the game, certainly makes it more interesting and I got no issue trying to help out docs but realistically it’s the droid doing the buff, so it makes sense that you can buy your own droid and get buffs from it. Restricting it to just master docs or xx44 docs restricts the number of droids being sold by droid engineers.

I think a good compromise from the DE standpoint is that maybe a small % of those fees go back to the DE that created the buff bot. Or make the thyferrin a consumable cartridge you got to buy from the DEs.

The droid is not doing the buff. It only extends how long the buffs last.

Right you get buffs from the doctor but the Thyferrin part has nothing to do with the doctor, it's the droid doing the work. Nothing would really stop you from owning your own droid, is my only point. Similar to any profession being able to own a combat droid. Surgical/medical droids are a big part of Star Wars.

Yep ypu are right. I agree with you it might be nice to see droids made for each different profession that in some small way helped kinda like the familiars help people.

You guys are accurately describing how the buff system currently works. Perhaps I could have been more clear about the logic behind the change with the PV. The idea I'm proposing would suggest that the droid is a piece of equipment that requires the doctor's skill to operate. The droid is not 100% self sufficient (as already evidenced by the fact that is has to be in a med center to work).

approved that buff bots will no longer provide buff extensions if the target of the extension is on the same account as the buff bot's owner

Revision to this: we will make it so that using your own droid will no longer return a cut of the cost to you, so you no longer get a *benefit* for using your own.
