- Proposal
- Re-evaluate the name filter for player data items, ideally to remove inoffensive restricted words.
- Justification
- Simple puns are blocked by the filter despite being largely inoffensive (at least as far as I'm aware.) For example the term 'fighter' isn't allowed when naming a starship, so the 'PIE Fighter' isn't a valid option. It also seemed that 'Liar' isn't allowed, thus naming my CH pet 'Ben The Liar' wasn't an option (He is now 'Lying Ben. Not quite as regal, is it?) While the impact is likely to be extremely minor in the grand scheme of things, I feel that I should at least voice the issue- Hopefully, this sort of thing isn't too hard to change?
- Motivation
- The justification is my motivation- The name filter strictness prevents what should be simple and inoffensive names or puns from happening, creating a minor annoyance. This is not any kind of priority issue by any stretch of the imagination, but a small quality of life upgrade.
I propose reevaluating the naming filter for player-named things, such as droids, creatures, and starships. In a few cases, I've hit very odd and seemingly nonsensical restrictions. Strictly offensive things should remain off-limits, but I have a couple of examples that I think indicate the filter as it is, is a little too strict.
