Proposal
Add a temporary Harvester Resource Collection Chip that can be crafted by Droid Engineers and installed into a droid.

When activated, the droid can collect resources from a harvester and transfer them directly to the owner's inventory.

The chip would have a limited number of uses and a limited duration. These values could be affected through experimentation. The operating range could also be an experimentation attribute, potentially ranging from 5m to 50m, depending on what the developers feel is appropriate for game balance.

For example, experimentation could allow Droid Engineers to specialize a chip toward:
  • Number of uses: 2–12
  • Duration: 10–60 minutes per use
  • Collection range: potentially 5–50m
The development team could adjust the exact values and experimentation system for balance.
Justification
This would give Droid Engineers another useful consumable product while creating meaningful choices for experimentation.

Instead of being a permanent upgrade, the chip would eventually run out of uses or expire, creating an ongoing market for chips crafted by Droid Engineers. Different experimentation results could also create different chip types and qualities, giving players a reason to seek out skilled Droid Engineers.

The range limitation would also prevent the system from becoming completely remote harvesting.
Motivation
Resource harvesting can involve a lot of repetitive manual collection, especially for players managing multiple harvesters. A droid-based collection chip could make resource collection more convenient while still requiring active player involvement.

The droid would give players a convenient way to collect resources from their harvesters and transfer them directly to their inventory. The player would still need to be within the chip's collection range for the droid to interact with the harvester.

It would also give Droid Engineers another meaningful consumable to craft, experiment with, and sell, giving players another reason to return to DEs for better chips.
I’d like to suggest adding a temporary Harvester Resource Collection Chip for Droid Engineers. The chip would allow a droid to collect resources from a harvester and transfer them directly to the player's inventory, with the chip's uses, duration, and collection range being determined through experimentation

Hey Cyr'ka!
Thank you for taking the time to write this up.

I have thought about this a lot. And I have brought up one or two suggestions during my term already heh.

The meat of the PV is for DE to create a droid or module which takes a consumable subcomponent in order to collect resources from harvesters.

Similar to your idea, I thought we could utilize the structure maintenance module. Experiment on the module for return time.

Similar to an ISD, id have struct maintenance mod require a storage module which is consumed when sent out.

I've also proposed other ideas which could play nice with content currently being developed.

So without breaking NDA, id just like to let everyone know who is interested in this that the team is aware and interested as well in something like this.

As the dev team has currently announced in discord, all efforts are on current test center changes so I wouldn't hold my breath on this one right now.

Thank again! Keep em coming!

I would say no. If you are just a few meters from your harvesters, then it is just as easy to collect the resources yourself. I know when I collect the resources, I also check the status just in case I need to add more power or maint. fees. This game is not made so everything will be done for you.

Downvote for me , while i see the appeal of the QOL this PV seeks to implement , i feel it impacts the interaction of players in all the planets .
Some of the magic of the game is to drive out in the wild , whether it's surveying , collecting resources or checking on harvesters.
I mean heck not long ago the devs just posted a diary about being out in the wild , i feel changes like this just encourages players from never leaving their house to go out and instead shifts focus to doing all these tasks by remote

I can see where you're coming from.
The danger of a CL1 being out in the wild and risking death to retrieve their resources is real.
When I crafted on live, I had friends escort me to my harvesters. I see folks reach out in galaxy chat at times for this service.
From a crafting standpoint, it's pretty similar to ISDs and structure maintenance mods as they allow you to stay home while the droid runs these outdoor tasks.
I wouldn't want to take away from player interactions for convenience.
But also would like to open new crafting niches.
In the end, I think the freedom to do any or all of these things is the best approach. Make it possible to send out a droid to retrieve resources. But make it costly enough to where you do it when you really need to and go out on your own or in a group when you want to immerse yourself and play.

I agree that some players have a real hard time staying alive out there as CL1 however that is why this server allows dual character log in.
Honestly i don't see how a player can die while gathering resources unless they are being really and i mean really careless BUT if we must help out these poor helpless crafters then
i hope of whatever method ends up being used uses asteroid resources and mustafar resources to craft

He did say The range limitation would also prevent the system from becoming completely remote harvesting.

So for me it is fine. Not something I would use but I can see if a CL1 wanted to have it in case his harvs are covered in nasty Rancors or something and he could stand off a ways and send in the droid. IF it was remote I would downvote but since this is saying between 5 - 50m that is fine.

hehe well i dont quite share that view.

i think a sandbox should allow players to have some choices in how they play.

I also think the biggest priority in resto right now is growing the population and retaining players.
