Proposal
Add 2-3 additional Lots to Master Merchant
Justification
Master Merchant is a class that most people currently do not keep after mastering it. The benefits of maxing the whole class and keeping it is insignificant.
Most people max Merchant once for the Badge and to Setup + Customize their vendors and after that drop it and only keep 4004 or 0004 for the Vendor amount and item Storage.
Adding 2-3 additional Lots to the Master Merchant box would allow them to essentially run an additional shop-building along side the harvesters and other structures crafters usually utilize.
Motivation
Giving Master Merchant something that makes it worth keeping the Master Box.
See proposal, justification and motivation above.

Master Merchant currently could need some improvements, there is almost no significant reason to keep the full class maxed once vendors are set up.
Adding 2-3 lots to the master box would probably make it worth to keep around.

Some considerations however:
- Placing structures above 10 lots and then dropping master merchant is unlikely to cause a significant impact or cause high potential for abuse because the player would not be able to move buildings around without reverting their placed structures to be within the non-master merchant 10 lot cap. This means the moment a player drops master merchant and wants to as example move harvesters, they will have to resort their buildings.
- Yes a person could potentially simply get master merchant and place more harvesters instead of a shop - However considering the amount of skillpoints sacrificed for that 1 extra elite harvester seems unproblematic because its a big trade off.
- Compared to other classes merchant is incredibly slow to level and cant be dropped and maxed over and over again in a short amount of time which is beneficial in this case to avoid abuse.

The reason people don’t keep merchant is because you shouldn’t have to drop half an elite craft profession in order to sell stuff. Adding extra lots would be great but it would mean having only one profession just to be able to get a few extra lots when we already get 30-40 (which is already far too much in my opinion). They would need to add a lot more to merchant to make it worthwhile.

If combat professions would need to drop half an elite profession in order to use a system that goes hand in hand with combat and barely gives them any benefits, people would bring out the pitchforks.

On top of things, I doubt dev would consider adding even more lots, since, from what I remember, they’ve been pretty vocal about the fact we already have too many.

Merchant should be similar to image designer in terms of skill point cost, you should be able to have two elite crafts and merchant and maybe decide if you’d rather master merchant or master artisan and the same way you can’t drop a base profession that’s a pre-requisite to an elite combat profession, you shouldn’t be able to drop merchant boxes if you have vendors out which have customizations or more vendors than you’d be allowed to have if you were to drop boxes.

Player bounties were moved to 4xxx instead of master for a similar reason, people don’t want to sacrifice an entire elite profession for the sake of hunting players if they didn’t need 3 of the 4 BH trees.

I hope this PV can spark a conversation and ideas about how to change merchant, but I don’t think adding lots is it, personally.

Was talking about this with someone yesterday. I wonder if it would benefit to have merchant as like a secondary prof like politician or prestige skill tree so you can keep your points?

I thought about this too but this is tricky because it creates a whole new array of other issues:

1. one of the artisan trees would become entirely useless and would need to get new purpose
2. vendors are also storage - and many people use it for that. Currently as master merchant you can list 4000 items. Having it a secondary profession would mean every character gets access to it - aka 3 (4) x 4000 slots of storage per account which will render many other aspects of storage management in the game absolutely obsolete
3. i dont know how healthy it would be to have 3 advanced crafting professions + all of merchants benefits on every crafting char. You kinda still want people to have reasons to play together.

Another - probably controversial - approach would be completely rebalancing merchant and its artisan tree - as example:

1. make all vendor maintenance significantly more expensive.
2. increase vendor maintenance scaling with the amount of vendors the character has set up.
3. buff the vendor tree of the artisan profession to establish a solid baseline that will allow most crafters to run a small sized store without having to spec into merchant at all.
4. merchant becomes a class for people that want to run large stores and malls and therefore the profession will significantly reduce the vendor maintenance fees (increased in 1+2) within its trees.

^ this probably needs a restriction / adjustment to vendor placement and vendor control rules tho - because currently everyone can place a vendor in a building when they have admin on it, despite not being the owner of it.

Problem simply however is tho that large shops / malls are currently ran by multiple players with each bringing their own vendors which i wouldn't want to take that option away because its essential to be honest

Probably needs more thoughts but generally i think its a better approach to rebalance or rework it instead of giving it to straight everyone alone for the storage reasons

sorry I missed this and left it open yeah it’s a no plenty of lots already

We’ll be moving to account-based lots soon
