Proposal
Proposing a Dynamic FRS Duel System to Limit and Balance Jedi
The core idea is to balance Jedi population and impact by introducing an automatic, system-enforced dueling mechanic for active participants in the Force Ranking System (FRS). This would apply to anyone transitioning from a standard Padawan toward Knight, as well as higher-ranking Jedi. It will also carry the extra benfit of preventing to many high-ranking Jedi filling up groups doing heroics.

1. The Proximity Engagement & Arena Lock
"When two active FRS Jedi enter close proximity to each other, they are immediately locked into a mandatory duel".
(Vader is on that ship, I can feel it...).
  • Dynamic Waypoint: Both players receives a on-screen message and a waypoint arrow pointing in the direction of the opposing force user, at for example 128m.
If the players get close enough to eachother, for example 64m, they now become locked in a duel automatically. It's now do or die-time!
(you can't hide, your feelings betray you!).

  • Zone Restriction: A localized combat zone locks around them. Neither Jedi can flee or leave this designated area. Perhaps a 50 or 100m bubble? No running from greatness!

  • Target Isolation: During the duel, they cannot attack or be attacked by "ordinary mortals" (non-FRS players). They must focus entirely on defeating one another to escape the bubble.
To prevent things from drawing out for to long, the fight should be forced to a draw after a set time, perhaps 10 minutes, after that it is declared a draw and both participants "loose".

2. Victory and Defeat Mechanics
Once the duel concludes, the "dome" lifts and specific mechanics ensure both a fair transition back to open-world combat and meaningful consequences:
  • The Victor's Grace: The winning Jedi immediately receives a brief buff—such as a full health restore and 10 seconds force-bubble so they cannot attack or be attacked.
This grants them a fair window to recuperate and prepare before the surrounding open-world combat resumes. The winner can now keep playing and is eligable for a new encounter.

  • The Loser's Penalty: Upon defeat, the loser either gets ghosted or loses a number of lives. Additionally, they suffer a temporary debuff and are sent to the Ranch.
Most importantly, they are forced "of the table", reducing the number of force users active at any given time.

  • Visibility Mechanics: Visibility generation continues to accumulate normally during these system-enforced duels.

3. Bounty Hunter Integration & Immersion
To align with the lore and alleviate the tracking burden, death impacts Bounty Hunter (BH) terminals:
  • When a Jedi is defeated and becomes a ghost, they are automatically dropped from all BH terminals (after all, the world just witnessed their "death").

  • However, their underlying Visibility score remains unchanged. If the player is careless and fails to actively lower their Visibility, they will eventually pop back up on BH terminals—simulating the lore element of "Someone saw them slip away... that pesky Force user isn't dead after all!"

4. FRS Point Distribution & Consent Boundaries
To prevent exploitation and maintain a true competitive hierarchy:
  • Rank-Based Scoring: The amount of FRS points awarded depends heavily on the rank disparity between the combatants. A top-tier Jedi defeating a low-ranking Padawan who just started their journey will yield virtually no respect or FRS points.

  • No Point Farming: Consentual, player-initiated PvP duels will NOT award FRS points. Points can only be earned through these organic, system-generated encounters.

  • Naturally Occurring Fights: FRS players will naturally acquire plenty of points simply by showing up to major factional battles, where other FRS participants are highly likely to be present. Meanwhile, casual "lowly" Padawans can safely stay out of the FRS spotlight, while those seeking ultimate power will actively take the risk.

5. GCW & Meta Considerations
While an immersion problem might persist since many Galactic Civil War (GCW) combatants are currently Jedi, it is highly probable that the vast majority of PvP-focused players will eagerly choose the FRS path, making this system a self-regulating ecosystem for high-end Jedi combat. The padawans left who dare not enter the FRS will stay as is today but in less numbers.
Thereby the total population online at any given point will be lower.
Justification
My first suggestion on these boards. So I cant really divide this post in a decent, meaningful way. It is also more meant as a suggestion for those developing the FRS.
If anyone can present this better and fitting the three cathegories Proposal / Justification and Motivation, then feel free.
Motivation
It creates a self-made choice, enter the FRS to be able to achieve greter power but be beware of the price as many other will slowly learn your secret.
The risk of being confronted by another power-hungry carrerist is always hanging over your head. Just like GCW but for up and coming force users.
Hey guys, I wanted to pitch an idea on how we could balance and limit Jedi once the Force Ranking System (FRS) drops,
focusing on organic world PvP isolation and risk vs. reward.
Let me know what you think!

I'm a hard no on any kind of forced PVP. Other than what already exists via the bounty Hunter mechanic.

The path to Jedi is hard enough. It is bogged down with an unnecessary amount of RNG. Personally I play this game because I want to be a Jedi. And I only recently just unlocked it via the book. I don't want to PVP. There are better games out there for PVP. PVP should always be optional. Forcing PVP on a casual gamer will just incentivize him to play something else that respects his time. The population is already low enough on the server.

But honestly I cannot emphasize enough. No one wants to be forced into PVP. I don't want to have to fight another player who is very experienced and knows what he's doing just because I want to get the next rank from Padawan to knight. Also it gives the advantage to members of large guilds who have the support from all their peers to get all the hard gear. It could literally make leveling higher than Padawan actually impossible for those in smaller clans who just want to play with their friends. And a good solid group of experienced players can trivialize any content in the game anyway. So really this only just feels like a targeted almost discriminatory action against Jedi

“Forcing” PvP hasn’t ever worked out well and doesn’t align with the sandbox modality of the game

Just want to point out that we have forced pvp to ALL jedi atm. Just a slight difference how to get there.
* At present you "have" to show yourself for a bit then you get forced into PvP when the bountyhunter / Inquisitor / Vader comes for you. (simplified).
* This suggestion is no different (even nicer than today even). You are already a jedi AND you decide to go into the FRS. And as such you are "forced" into PvP
a little bit more than as "just" a jedi-padawan. So you who said no, you rather have people entering FRS, getting stronger, but not have ANY downside?
* And, as the suggestion stands, you do have a selection. You could always run in the opposite direction when you see the first pop-up...
(so all in all, not a single difference from the current BH mechanics really).

No we do not have forced pvp. It is a choice and any number of people have never been on the boards. They have also said FRS and Progression boxes are going to be different with a pve path possible for the progression boxes.

And it's an active choice to be in the FRS-system too (if it ever will actualize). If for some reason they will come true to the FRS being a PvE system, then this entire suggestion is void anyway.
But all the info I could find has been aimed at the FRS being 100% PvP based. If that is not the case though...

This is ALL from last year and could change but this is what they have said so far. Also you are not understanding the difference between FRS and Progression:

The "force progression" boxes (Padawan, Knight, Guardian, Master) will be where your general power level, and penalties, increase. None of this is locked in, but for example:
  • Knight will unlock Gen 5 saber and ability to drop the FS skills, but will have increased ghost timer compared to Padawan (36 hours?)
  • Guardian/Master will get more Force Max and the meditations will get stronger, higher ghost timer/fewer lives
Order/Inquisition will be the FRS ranks, PvP focused, and increase your power vs other Force users exclusively. Those will be earned by earning FRS xp, challenging people, etc as the normal FRS used to work. Force Progression boxes will be earnable through story and milestones (not pvp exclusive), and depend on which track you follow. Yes this implies a third path...

I also want to say that this is just awful with oh hey I just ran into town to buy something or join up with my group and poof because the guy running past me is frs I have to now stop and be immediately locked into a mandatory duel. Yeah I can see no problems with that ever happening.

You mean, exactly how being Special Forces is today. :)
But in FRS you have chosen this "overt" status because you wanted to get stronger as a Jedi.
I agree with the distinction between FRS and the Jedi Porgression tree. But as this idea was thought of, my avialble info was that develpoment wanted
the progression beyond padawan to be PvP dependant to some degree.

Well you are assuming that FRS will be overt all the time which seems a tad silly and not so much fun for the whole Inquisitor/Jedi arc not to mention the BH and visibility piece. Why care about your visibility if you are overt 100% of the time anyway? Plus if you are overt 100% of the time it can possibly limit the play you do except just fighting others. You can also toggle SF on/off.

Also I think they are playing it very wise with 85 to 90% of your population being pve and trying to force them into pvping to get the nice shiny is kinda goofy when you can have both pvp and pve be happy and the pvp players with the frs get the added perks of being stronger against other force users and such so they are stronger than the pve. Both groups are heppy (and unhappy for the few that feel entitled) so it is a win win.

I applaud your time in your for thought with the limited information on the FRS system as this is a suggestion it can be brain stormed into some possible additions I understand the balance of not having jedi be too powerful for the game mechanics or having 90 % of the online players be jedi I would not want to be forced into a pvp battle which has happened to me on several occasions while doing the empire days just to get bonus tokens as a level 1 crafter and high level combatants take advantage and kill you for gcw tokens and rank points. the system could work if you choose to be "force recognizable" which would be like special forces and when you are force recognizable you get temp bonuses to your jedi but at a risk of being recognized by another jedi in the same status level and opposing order "sith verses jedi" a choice that is made when attaining knight status. this would initiate the pvp part of the jedi game play and story line "jedi vs jedi" but the normal "on leave jedi" would be hidden from the force recognizable unless their visibility is at the same level that they would be on the bounty boards and they too could also be attacked by the jedi night/masters. I do like the recognize at range idea but only if you have chosen to be recognizable, I am up voting for the suggestion but opposed to a perma pvp status when you achieve knight/master level.

While nothing in this idea I like, there is one huge issue I see. This system pretty much means jedis can never group up. Your a jedi, and your buddy is a jedi and he is looking to farm NK and wants you to help. How can you help him if as soon as you start heading that way you now have to duel him?

Yup downvote for me

Upvoting this, but only in its concept and not the exact specifications laid out in the suggestion. The main thing is that we aren't sure what FRS will bring when it finally arrives. With any luck there will already be a requirement to defeat other Jedi in battle, otherwise what's the point?

Absolute no to the forced PvP. Even if the jedi is considered high tier profession, it dont mean everyone who play one do PvP or want to.
SWG is NOT only PvP.
SWG is also PvE.
SWG is also social sandbox.

This entire idea sound something to further punish anyone playing a jedi or discourage people away from them, if it was not challenging enough to unlock it, as well getting all the proper endgame gear and balance the visibility. The current system with the visibility, ghost cooldown and bounty hunters is fine as it is, even if it could use little tuning.

If I end up on bounty board because my visibility got too high, that's on me and I bear no grudge to the hunter, who's just playing the game too.

But to be forced to do PvP because I want to run ingame content with friends and guild, either excluding myself or other out, wont do.
This would also create rifts, elitism and toxicity within the community, where only certain jedi players who either are quite adept with the PvP or already have high tier gear, can do group content, leaving those with neither skill or gear outside.

Thank you for the suggestions.

Please remember that there will be two sides to choose from as described in brief by the dev team. There will be Jedi Knights, and an Inquisitor Path. I don't see why two Jedi knights would see eachother and immediately ignite sabers. I think this idea is more well suited for some interaction between Jedi Knights & Inquisitors.

We don't quite know what that looks like yet, but i don't see how this would be helpful for Bounty Hunter vs Jedi Interactions, Group content and GCW. People are generally frowned upon when bringing Jedi into GCW related PvP.

I'm sure there will be an implementation of the FRS system unique to the server, which will focus on some interaction between Jedi Knights and Inquisitors. I'm not explicitly opposed to "Forced" PvP either, simply because it is not forced, you can choose to remain a padawan.

I am optimistic we will get some interaction where inquisitors can hunt Jedi Knights. I don't think a duel is even warranted. inquisitors were rarely as "Powerful" as Jedi Knights and often hunted in groups in the Star Wars Universe.

I like the idea of Jedi & Inquisitor "Prestige". Which is similar to what you've suggested and already exists for other professions.

For those reasons I cant agree with this solution, but I think there are some good ideas and useful feedback for the team.
