Proposal
Introduce a Respec NPC with a few tradeoffs to make it fair.

Justification
Being able to respec without relying on other players and/or save valuable time.

Motivation
I think having convenient tools like this (with tradeoffs) is a good approach into making the game more enjoyable.

Introduce a Respec NPC with a few tradeoffs to make it fair.

The tradeoffs:
  1. Comes with a small credit fee, but saves time!
I don't want to propose a specific number, but 225k for ELITE Professions & 75k for CORE Professions seems reasonable.
    • For example, Master Combat Medic requires 135k credits to fully learn. Master Scout Requires 45k to fully learn.
So thats a 40% fee (god, hope I got that right).
  2. Could work like a skill trainer, providing options for specific trees (4xxx BH etc.).
  3. You can respec only into professions mastered before (hit Master Box).
    • Assumes the player has put in enough effort to master a profession on their own, so that they can save more time later.
  4. Spin groups will remain valuable and optional source of grinding a template.
    • You can actually profit from them as there could be players that can teach you.
I think this is a good idea, this will allow people to quickly swap between templates for a specific instance/fight etc.
Say you have a dust covered armor set suited for SL/Pistols and you want to do heroics, this is your time to finally shine!

NUMBERS ARE NOT FINAL, ONLY SERVE AS AN EXAMPLE FOR THIS SUGGESTION.
Jedi are disqualified from being able to use public service such as this.

Take a look at these suggestions in the comments to this PV as an alternative or add-on to mine:

This is a big No from me , you are basically wanting to kill one of the few interactions for players to have and let me guess why
"respect people's time " the XP has already been increased dramatically so players can switch professions with ease , you can literally master something in like 1 hr tops with XP buff , once we go this slope , what is next , terminals for dance buff because waiting a couple of minutes to get an Entertainer buff is too long ?

  1. Not every person has an hour to spend.
  2. Nothing stops people from seeking interactions if they want them. As I said, spin groups are still valuable with this change.
    • Moreover, I'd say that Spin Groups can be very inconvenient. The game isn't always group oriented, people should be able to solo things (with exceptions of course). And they can either solo spin or pay money.
  3. I'd argue that being able to change your template on the fly can actually create/save an interaction with others. See my example for SL/Pistoleer.
This is just a convenience tool, similar to ITVs. That's why I propose a fee.
Right now, the most played content (from my PoV at least) are Heroics and PvP (BHing). Which is a group content, so I'd say interactions are in pretty good place ATM.

Well let me ask some more to so I can understand maybe. What is to stop me from having 1 crafter alt that is basically everything? I mean if you can switch that easily and quickly you can in essence be Master everything and that causes other issues and screws up the interdependence the game was built around.

I think you would have to do something to fix that. And non pvp interactions for me are Spin Groups with often folks respecing. Hate to lose that with such a small population just to benefit pvp.

you dont have an hr to spend grinding to respec , but you do have more than an hour to do heroics ?

maybe lets just turn the game full solo experience and have convenience
-lets do away with factories , i should be able to make 1k items instantly
-im sure some find the village phases are too long even though they have been reduced already , let switch phases daily
-why even bother grinding Jedi , im sure players dont have hours to grind , lets just give them award them respec tokens upon completing the padawan trials
-why should harvesters take days to collect resources , why not instant ?
i can go on and on about convenience

It is a valid concern, but at the same time nothing is stopping someone regrinding the crafting professions with a macro and increased EXP.
You can also have 1 Jedi and 3 crafting characters to have "almost everything" and swap accordingly.

The NPC can have a timer on it, but I am not sure on the range.

I do see your point with spin groups and IMO this would be a bigger issue with the lack of content for more casual players.

This could be great for things that are a pain to grind(scouting experience primarily), but otherwise you're just spinning to make money instead of spinning to make experience... but you made experience while making the money so you don't need to respec anymore. This is essentially letting you bank experience in the form of money indirectly, which I'm not a fan of.

I do because Heroics are more valuable.

As for the commentary you provided below.
I don't understand why are you talking about these things in this Player Voice. I'm not asking for anything extreme like that.

Can you elaborate? I don't understand.

Good point, I was thinking along the lines of Live I think.

So, at least to me, this PV reads as you spend money to bypass the need for experience to train with a requirement to have some stuff already trained instead.

Unless this PV is meant not as a respec, but as a remote retrainer, with discounted training costs?

Something just seems not right about this though. I can't put my finger on it but it seems that instant respec would be exploited in some way, maybe crafting. Sure you can have alts that are different but imagine being able to respec everyone of them instantly seems off.

Thats a good point, for just some credits you can be an omnicrafter now. Monday is chef, tuesday is architect, etc... just gotta pay some of that profit from having a vendor selling everything in the game to maintain the cycle. Or more realistilcaly just swap when needed.

that is the thing lot of these PVs , they don't take into account the bigger picture , it's just about lets make something convenient for me because i don't have time , but i do have time for heroics and other end game stuff , especially crafting , why would i buy items from another crafter when i can insta spec into whatever it is i need
- that new spawn of hide/meat , why bother hiring someone , i can just spec and get it myself
-that backpack schematic i got , why go to a tailor , i can just spec tailor and make it myself
that is just a couple of examples

Max did mention a cost and possibly a timer associated with it.

I'd imagine that this proposal is based off of the NGE profession counselor that let's the player change profession at the cost of credits.

The cost would usually be the first respec is free, but there is an exponential increase in cost, as such;
  • 1st = Free
  • 2nd = 100k
  • 3rd = 150k
  • 4th = 250k
  • 5th = 500k
  • 6th = 1 Mil
  • 7th = 6 Mil
  • 8th = 7 Mil
  • 9th = 8 Mil
  • 10th = 9 Mil
  • 11th = 10 Mil
  • 12th+ = 25 Mil
Where each month, the counter ticks down. If the cost would be similar to the values above, I cannot foresee anyone exploiting this kind of system when the cost to respec becomes so high.

Obviously this is all for the NGE profession system, where there weren't skill boxes like on this server, so I am not quite sure how the price of respecing be handled here.

the more PVs i see mentioning NGE , its almost as if some players would be better served playing NGE , its obvious this CU based is ...well too inconvenient for some and their time

The server is no longer pure-CU, as has been stated by the development team multiple times on Discord, it is CU-inspired.

If the community and the development team agree on a feature, I think there is no harm in implementing it, regardless of which era of SWG it was taken from.

And the reason a lot of PlayerVoices mention NGE, is because there were a lot of quality-of-life updates done that improved upon the game.

i am well aware this isnt a pure 100% CU , but it is CU based with NGE content and some elements , i if wanted to play NGE i would have gone already to Legends , nor do i want this to become a NGE light server , sure there are some QoL things that would be welcomed here but some of these PV's totally disregard the whole game ecosystem all in the name of convenience and i don't have time , which in reality it's not about not having time its about some not wanting to do some stuff they considered a waste of time
