  • Fishing

In Star Wars Galaxies Restoration (SWGR), fishing is simple and rewarding.

    How to Fish

You'll need a fishing pole and some bait.

    Fishing Rods

Fishing rods are made by Artisans (must have at least Novice box). The quality of the rod affects your catch rate; the maximum quality for a fishing pole is 100.0.

    Bait

There are four types of bait usable for fishing:
    • Worm Bait, Grub Bait, Insect Bait - Obtained while foraging
    • Chum Bait- Obtained as a byproduct of filleting your catch
The bait must be placed in the rod, which is a container with 1 space for bait. Only one type of bait can be used at a time. There does not seem to be a demonstrable difference between bait types in terms of fish caught or catch rate.

Bait has three textures: Fresh, Soggy, and Mush. The wetter the bait is, the more likely it is that it will get stolen off the line. Fish can, however, be caught at any level of bait sogginess.

    Mechanics of Fishing

To fish, you must be within 2 m of a body of water of any size. Equip your fishing rod as you would a weapon or an instrument. Then radial your rod, and select "fish"
Alternatively (and more expediently), you can use the command /fish.

Once your bait has landed in the water, the Fishing mini-game begins!

As long as your bobber is in the water, every five seconds or so the game will check to see if anything happens in a fish-related capacity. When it does this, the window will re-draw itself.

When fishing, you'll receive one of three messages when the fish interacts with your bait. The option you select from the Fishing Window to progress depends on the message.

Nibble... - Use the "Tug Left" or "Tug Right" options. You're better off picking one and sticking with it.
Bite?- Use the "Tug Up" option.
CAUGHT SOMETHING!- Use the "Reel In" option.

Once you receive the CAUGHT SOMETHING! message and you start to reel in your fish, the fishing engine will begin randomly generating fishing events to determine if your catch gets closer to you or gets farther away from you (or if you lose your bait, which can also happen). If the fish gets farther than 10m away, you lose it. If the fish gets within 2m of you, you catch it.

You do not, however, need to stand still while doing this process. After the first "You begin to reel in your catch" message, you can actually walk out to your bobber to speed up the process of catching your fish (if you are 2m or closer to your bobber before you receive the first reel-in message, the fishing session ends). However, if you enter deep enough water that you start swimming, the fishing will end and you will lose your catch. You can avoid this by fishing in shallow water (some suitable locations are listed below).

A popular method of fishing is standing parallel to the shoreline, which will allow your cast to stay in shallow waters and remain relatively close to you.

    Fishing Locations

Any fishing location has two stats: Fish Density and Vegetation, with either quality running from 0 to 5.

Density- Affects the wait time between nibbles. Lower fish density means a lot of waiting. Higher is better (aim to fish somewhere with 4-5 density if possible)
Vegetation- Affects the likelihood of your line/bait getting snagged, ending in a lost catch. Lower is better (aim to fish somewhere with 0-1 vegetation if possible)

    Fishing Spots

These sites are good fishing spots due to the shallower water. Be sure to check the Density and Vegetation when you cast!
    • The ramp leading into the river near Dathomir's Trade Outpost.
    • Most beaches make for great fishing, especially those north of Kaadara (Naboo), south of Tyrena (Corellia), and at the edges of Yavin IV's islands (north and east of Mining Outpost).

    Catch List

Filletable Fish- These fish will have metrics about where and when you caught them, and they can be filleted for fish meat (used by chefs, bio-engineers, and architects) and chum bait.
