Proposal
Keep the house total storage cap but remove the limit of 50 items per furniture container, or at least increase it to 200, to allow players to store their items however they see fit within their house.
Justification
A cap per container is not really needed since the total storage limit is already capped at the building level. This only adds unnecessary constraints on where a player wants to store their items. Realism can't really be used to justify it either since an armoire should be able to hold more than a cabinet and definitely more than a backpack or pockets for that matter. Should it be an issue of performance with displaying to many items at once, then at least increasing that limit to a less restrictive level should already help a lot.
Motivation
RE junk loot piles up fast and it would be nice to be able to store all of it within a single container. Probably valid for other uses like resources, components, etc.
The limit of 50 items per storage container limits players in how they can store their items and forces them to split between multiple containers, while not having any relevant use since the total storage is already capped at the building level. Lifting that limit per container would allow storing however many assets a player wants in each container, within the building limit, removing the need to search through multiple containers for similar item type (e.g. junk loot for RE). Alternatively, should it present a risk in terms of performance, at least increasing the item limit to a more reasonable 200 would already tremendously help with item management.

EDIT: Updated to include the alternative to increase the limit rather than lift it entirely, in case it could cause performance issues.

There is no real need for a cap per container

I disagree here - I'm sure there would be performance issues if the game tries to load in 1000 items kept in a single container at once. Same as walking into a well decorated house. Could be a nightmare for support if opening causes a crash whenever you open it. Suddenly you can't get to the only place where you store items.

I'd say a limit of 200 or so will be fine but having it unlimited is a risk.

That makes sense, I overlooked the fact that items are their 3D model even in inventory. I still think the limit should at least be increased to a less restrictive level than 50 items. Is it ok to update this post to reflect that?

Definitely! Just thought it would be something to consider. A dev could turn around and say it isn't an issue, but thought I'd raise it.

I updated to include both options so it's open to whatever is more viable (should it be approved). Thanks for the feedback!

Increasing the tool chest to 100 and crafting station to 200 would most likely take care of it without breaking the game.

Does that sound like a decent compromise?

sponsored. this falls in line with upcoming changes to housing storage, lots, etc. makes sense to upgrade a couple storage items as well.

You could set the range for containers from 50 to 100. With the maximum content of a specific container being determined by experimentation by the Architect...

I'm all for adding experimentation lines that allow for more customization.

Only issue is I think if you put too many containers inside other containers, it can get funky. So if someone made a 100, 90, 80, etc, it could mess things up.

I think the only containers that you can put inside other containers are the pouches that hold 20 items, that does not however, mean you are incorrect about containers being weird when nested. Unless you are talking about containers being inside a house or other structure which are themselves essentially containers.
