Proposal
I propose a new tool, purchasable with Station tokens, be added that allows the combining of two previously Reverse Engineered (REd) parts of the same RE level. The resultant part would have the best stats from each input part with no new % bonus. These tools would be single use items that would have to be used by a shipwright.

Ideally, the tool will also allow the shipwright the ability to choose the displayed graphic as well. Examples such as weapon firing effect, cannon style, engine style ect.
Justification
This will give a couple of benefits to players without introducing any real power creep since it is not introducing any increase in performance in regards to the RE percentage increase was added in the initial RE phase.

1. It will allow players to fix less than desirable RE projects. We all have one or two that we wish we would have waited a little longer to get that next matching stat.

2. It will allow players to immediately use looted components rather than storing them for any length of time while waiting for the perfect matching stats. For example, a player with a great mass weapon can RE it with good enough stats now, and down the road as he/she gets a better damage, EPS or refire, it can be added in.
Motivation
I want everyone to be able to use great parts, and never feel bad about "wasting" a good stat because of ignorance or impatience.
For everyone who ever had a bad RE job, and wished for a do-over.

So the best argument I see is that why would someone spend 100 million to over write a 50 million stat on a ship part. However there are people that have been playing for a long time that has hundreds of millions if not billions of credits. Obviously someone in that category would not worry about money.

Also someone brought up that making the tool very expensive would deter someone from from making a 'super elite" ship component. Maybe ..... but would a new player to R3 have the same opportunity? Or go broke buying it? Or perhaps have to wait 3 yrs while they build up the credits.

Being in IT for 30+ years we always look at the pros and cons of something we want to implement before we move forward. And if we can mitigate the concerns of management and security.

There is no doubt this could benefit me. But at what expense to the rest of the pilots just starting out. I fear it would make a HUGE gap in quality between their ship (as an Ace) compared to those that have been around for 5 years and amassed hundreds of million of credits.

Like I said, this would benefit me as well, I have a E0 with almost 110 engine speed and Y/P/R of 81, and a mass of 37K. I could RE it now and upgrade it later as it can be better. Or I can just wait and see if better parts are looted or come up for sale.

The thought of just "upgrading" a stat is very appealing. I am just not so sure this is something we have to have and what other issues will it cause that involve newer players.
While I agree yes, elite pilots with insanely good parts can maybe upgrade a stat or 2 slightly on a part they already have making it a bit better, I cant follow your argument about it leaving new players behind. As a new player you get a few really amazing parts along the way, but have to save them for months or years. I myself had a L10 gun with insabely high damage for 3 years laying around. These items that could be used with gold items, now have to await amazing items instead of being put to use getting the amazing items faster. So the new players are stuck with mediocre ships competing in the loot race with the order pilots. So I can only see this as a bigger advantage for new players to catch up, than a disadvantage. If the order pilot already has a much better engine, whether it has 87 or 89 yaw og 115 or 120 speed doesn't really make a difference in a pvp encounter. The new player will be down in seconds anyway.

Brother...
If anything this helps new players in a multitude of different ways, more than it helps the very very occasional unicorn part that someone gets. I dont understand how you dont understand this. After it being explained 10 different ways. Its almost like a new player catch up system.
If anything is makes it so you can either choose to upgrade your engine now, or wait months. If this is the basis of your actual argument, then fine, I get it. But the rest of this is so all over the place, I dont even know why youre against it anymore.
If anything you are more worried about someone thats played longer than you, or has more than you, and trying to dictate what they do with their credits. Its silly.

YOu also are not understanding that the freaking tool will not be a credit sink........ it will be on the AoA vendor........... for space battle tokens.

This super elite thing you keep bringing up isnt going to happen the way you think it will.

Im done with this conversation.

I Think it would be better for the 3 or 4 people who fit your scenario to weigh in rather than assume.

The richest players on the server are going to do what they want. For the other 99%, this would only help them.

It is unrealistic to say a new player should have the same access to the highest tier end game gear than some billionaires that have been around since launch.

Besides, the access to those items is equal. It is pure RNG. And the average player can get within 10% of the best stats in the game without spending hundreds of millions.

I'm one of the rich players that spends time and credits on parts. 9 times out of 10, I'm going to start a new project to match any new insane stat part that I get. I'm not going to essentially delete my older gear by upgrading one stat at a time because those stats all match. Over writing a stat would only be because of a previous lack of patience (I have a couple of those).

Its far more useful for a new player that gets his/her first amazing stat on something useful. In my first 2 weeks, I got a 20.5k mass W8. Instead of having that turn into an 8 month project, I could have used it for those 8 months while finding the matching stats. There is no reason I would ever smash a even a 19k mass into that gun now and erase that amazing stat.

I also keep coming back to the same point. Even if I did want to over write my own good stats with even better ones, who does that hurt other than me? People are acting like there is some community ownership of great parts. This getting implemented or not, makes no difference on what people are willing to use or sell. You're oppinion on what someone else should do with his/her part doesn't matter. So if someone else makes a choice with that immaginary part that you wouldn't, that doesn't mean the tool that made it possible is a bad tool.

Negative gameplay effects? Lets hear it
