Proposal
Keep generative AI out of resto and work to replace the current AI art with human made designs from the community
Justification
With the current perception of gen-AI art being lazy, lacking any sort of appreciation for real art, and built on plagiarizing real artists (not even including the terrible environmental and economic impact) I feel that we shouldn't continue to add artwork made with such a technology into our retro mmo. To continue doing so, in my opinion, actively goes against what makes this game, and how it came to be, special.
Motivation
Seeing multiple people, myself included, lose excitement for the 5th anniversary because our gifts were AI slop paintings, makes me want to at least have this discussion.
Pretty self explanatory, I think with the current shift in public sentiment around gen-AI art we really should have a say as a community whether we even want this slop in our retro mmo.

I personally think it adds nothing and only hurts the image of the server to continue to add gen-AI assets, even if they are currently limited to paintings.

I do not like A.I. slop nor do i support it
I also understand if the dev team decides to add a few paintings is probably because they are short staffed in the art dpt.
I also don't come here trying to shame the dev team for adding them , especially when i can delete offending art work
IF anybody is really this offended by a few paintings and the building in Bestine which is a choice to go see , then you really need to re evaluate the priorities in life
And if your life is in shambles everyday because of a few A.I. paintings then call your Senator and Representative and stop with the fake outrage
Who's shaming the Dev Team? Asking for something to not happen isn't the same as shaming someone.

For example, you asking everyone to not share an opinion on AI images isn't shaming anyone. And then, conversely, you equating people's lives to being "in shambles" or that they need to reevaluate their priorities is, because it's judgemental and belittling. The more you know!

In any case, AI images don't bother everyone, clearly. But they are off-putting to a lot of people and considering they don't really add anything to the game it just doesn't seem that important to keep them in. And if you don't like that we can voice our opinions, be sure to reach out to your Senator!

maybe if all you A.I. painting snowflakes that are this upset , concerned , emotional distraught over a few A.I. paintings , perhaps you all can hire a world renown artist or if that is too expensive a local talented artist to do art work for the game and you can solve the manufactured crisis you lot got going on :sneaky:

Okay, so...I mean this is way off track, but I just need to point out that you're being hyperbolic and emotional while also calling everyone "snowflakes." The irony is strong with this one.

Can you point to an example of anyone being emotional that isn't you? Maybe instead of projecting, you can explain the benefits of AI images? You know, engage in discussion?

I appreciate everyone sharing their thoughts. I think we've heard the core feedback.

The team cares a lot about the game's visual identity, and I think we all want the assets we add to feel intentional, like they belong in Star Wars Galaxies. If we do our job right, players shouldn’t be able to tell the difference between our custom content and the original game. That's a standard I would like to see us move toward.

We can also do a better job of finding workflows that keep art assets and content moving without losing the human touch and visual style that makes SWG feel like SWG. For in-game paintings especially, we’re going to make an effort to use more community artwork, player screenshots, and other handmade content. I think those types of additions are a better fit for SWG.

Thanks again for the feedback. For now I'm going to close this PV since I think we understand the perspectives and concerns and know where to go from here.
